Location: atlanta | Well things are finally showing some progress, have the engine for the car, looks like the bell/flywheel/trans etc. will swap over and i'll be able to keep the 3 on the column. flywheels being resurfaced and the studs pressed out since the other crank has been tapped for 1/2 X 20 capscrews. should have the t bars in today and the master cylinder off, put the wheels on the front and finally get it back on the ground. Well that's the plan for today. I nixed the idea of the Poly thing and bought this other motor that seems to be working out fine as far as an install. I will prep and paint the engine bay before the install.

Location: atlanta | Okay, a lesson in the natural progression of things, particularly engine swaps. This is the first installment of many, many, i'm sure will be posted, sadly, and many that ya'll out out there have already experienced, again, sadly.
#1.Ya got a 61 Poly 318, standard trans, 172 tooth flywheel, 6 holes on the crank flange, 7/16th X 20, it registars on the 325 hemi crank flange which has 8 1/2 X 20 tapped holes, and the 6 holes line up beautifully, now don't get the giddy's and think how far Your ahead of the game already and that on this swap, heck I might not even have to adjust the clutch, then run down the the machine shop to get it resurfaced, why?, because a week later when you go down to the machine shop to have the 7/16 holes drilled and faced for the 1/2 X 20 cap screws you'll soon find out why they have several defibrillators stationed around the office! Uh, $350 drill and face + 60 to resurface and all of a sudden ya have a $410 modified poly 318 flywheel and you can buy new hemi flywheel for less that that.

Location: bishop, ca | The Sanderson on the driver's side will NOT fit; its front runner hits the motor mount and the dump exits on top of the torsion bar.
You CAN use the Driver's side as a basis for the reconfiguration of the exhaust runners.
There is another thread on the Exhaust Board where a guy re-configured the Sanderson to fit his Hemi 57 Dodge.
The main-flange fits fine, and the first inch or so of the runners can have newly-shaped pipes be welded to them.
Easiest thing is to play with the runners with the fender(s) being removed.

Location: atlanta | I did some more measurments, i have the motor on a roller stand that is exaclty 24" wide, same as the TB width in the car, i mocked the headers on the motor and measured, looks good to me, but as i peered over the engine bay, the drag link looks like a problem, if so it's probably a deal breaker. I have the the pass side TB in, the other side will have to have the thriugh bolt for the TB tension plasma cut, sawzall with and new blade barey scratched it, must be case hardened, and that would make sense. |

It's good that you are going to take off the driver's (and passenger's) fender; the photos should be very self explanatory, regarding
the 'factory' fit/alignment, and what you will have done to create various clearances on the driver's side.
Here's some ideas on the shaping of exhaust headers.

Location: atlanta | The Hot Heads motor mounts came in today, have to mock up the headers and mounts, I've been assured by HH that they don't interfere with the headers, may get away with the T bars, next booger will be the drag link, maybe a center or rear sump, or may have to have a pan built, this motors going in even if it's in the trunk! pics at 11;00 |

Location: atlanta | Not gonna use it anyway, Hot Heads makes an adapter that has a inlet and outlet port, because of the block huggers being so close to the pan, I plan on running an oil cooler and this dual filter setup. I wonder if I should run the cooler before or after the filters, i would think before.

Location: atlanta | Also have a question, when these yahoo's dragged it out of hiding, they must have not released the E brake or something, the front bumper was tweaked real bad, and this is what they did to the end of the frame, what would you do, weld a new end on, get a welder out here and try to heat and hammer it back right? if I have to weld a new end on, what years/models fit, I'm also looking for the driver's side section of the front bumper, the DS is good, have a new center section, so I need the DS section.

Location: Perth Australia | I fixed the end on my dodge, wasnt that hard actually, but isnt there supposed to be a flat bit that the bumper bracket bolts to?
Yours is much worse than mine was though, mine was just bent a bit, not ripped apart
I would expect that the metal is/will be quite stretched which will make it hard to get right
Its not really structural (apart from holding the bumper on) but with damage like that, I would do some very carefull measuring of the subframe to check that its all still in spec.
Might be better to get another frame, your not really that far away from it being able to come off, its just all the hanger on bits that are the pain (suspention, brake lines ect)

Location: atlanta | Not sure yet, I did get the two Tbars in, I need to cut a piece of broom handle and knock the Tbars forward and install the clips and cups, installed the proper lower strut bar bolts to the lower a frame, went ahead and loosened the upper control arm bushing as suggested so when i put weight on the front end it doesn't damage them, next comes the front shocks and connect the tie rods, then I'll install the wheels and roll it forward so I can remove the other fender and inner fender panel. I'll install the bell and trans on the hemi, install the mounts and headers and swing it over to check the clearance.
I shot a couple of pics of the Tbars installed, this is weight off wheels and the adjusting bolt just coming through the barrel nut on top, haven't done this before, does it look right? anyone?

Location: atlanta | Well, yesterday was a good day! a few days ago a kid (anyone under 50 is a kid to me) came by looking at the car, we talked for a while and i mentioned needing some help getting Gypsy back together, he said great, he'd help and when did i want to start, how about Wednesday? great I said.
Yesterday about 9:30 he bangs on the door, ya ready to go to work?, uh yep, say's I, nursin' a small hangover, sure!, that kid worked my ass off! got the outter tie rod ends on, cut the old shocks off and installed the new ones, I couldn't find the lower shock bolts, so He say's I work at fastenal around the corner, I'll run get some grade 8 stuff, i give him some money, he comes back, his cost, $.65, two bolts, two washer's and two lock nuts, pretty sweet huh?, any way, he said, K, what's next, I told him about the 66 Fury rear in the yard with the springs and all attached, he grabs his cutoff and cuts the u bolts, we drag over to the carport and get it up there, next we cut out the u bolts on the 61 tapered axle rear, went and got new u bolts and walla, the rears in, I'm amaxed the thing sat on the smae eyebolts, no mods at all, straight bolt in swap, put the rims and tires on to see how she looks, sweet huh?, It was dark, about 9:30 and we drank a Lime-A-Rita and called it a day, went in took a shower, woofed a sammich and hit the hay.
Gotta rest today cause he's coming back tomorrow, I know it's gonna be a long day!, but great, gettin' R done.

Location: atlanta | Got a little more done today, cleaned the bottom of the trunk floor and inside framerails, rust treated it and undercaoted it, then installed the new gas tanks/ sending unit, and plumbed and hooked up the fuel guage wire. We started taking the front accessories off the 66 Poly, disconnected the auto trans, only hitch was one exhaust manifold bolt broke of in the head, guess I'll have to take the head off and take it to a machine shop, right?

Location: WHEELING,WV.>>>HOME OF WWVA | that broken bolt might not be so hard to get out . if it's got just a real tiny stub stickin out or in past the face . get a good 1/8 drill bit and start it a close to center a possible . drill a little bit , stop and check center . if
its of a touch off start drilling again by pointing the drill the way it needs to go . after a few seconds , stop , look again . do it as many times as needed to get close to center . once your satisfied with center , drill all the
way through the stud . then up the size if the bit drill . then up the size to a bit that is about the same size as the inside of the threads , drill it . then get the size tap you need , tap it >straight in< . you should have a
nice clean hole . even if you miss center by a couple of thousandths , it'll be ok ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but then to , a machine shop is less worrisome but i've done it that way for yrs . never had one strip back out ------------------later |

Location: atlanta | Some more progress today, master cylinder is installed, proportioning valve installed, hard lines to the front and rear installed and hooked up, removed fender antenna, fenders dechromed, got the car turned around so the nose is on the carport. Agenda for Friday, install rear shocks, pull front seat, install the new shoes and hardware on the back end. Tomorrow, drop off front fenders to fill in antenna hole and a small rust hole under the driver's side outer headlight bucket, drop off the intake and valve covers for clear powder coating, remove crank from the 61 poly and drive the pistons out, contact Neilson about a new cam, have one header weld redone. I need the rubber line from the rear end tee to the brake line, nobody has a listing, any help?
By the way, the guy brought the Hemi back crying, he said he didn't own a spark plug socket long enough to get the spark plugs out, okay, no problem, we swapped back, damm I really wanted that chevy for my car! Brrrrraaahhaaaahaaaahaaaa....

Location: atlanta | OK, Some wise person replied when i first bought this car " rebuild the original motor" well, I'm infamous for not listening, the original motor is now torn to the bare block and will go to the machine shop Monday for an .030 bore, ETC.
I now realize there's NO Hemi in my future (dammit), toyed with making it a sono clone, but I have most of what it takes to get the Poly motor together, so I guess a Poly @.030, headers, cam, and a P-600 with three 2's are in our future. The Hemi's for sale if anyone's interested.

Anywho, her's the motor, crank looks real good, had the beat n' drive the pistons out, luckily I used my Carport Engineering Inc. piston removal kit, and the worst of the pistons to remove. I stopped by the machine shop to ask about a wait time for the block, he said about a week, i told him about the pistons being stuck and not haveing a ridge reamer, i didn't know this, but he said NEVER use a ridge reamer because it will egg shape the bores and the factiory bore is what they use to align the boring bar with, ever heard that?
There's also a shot of the MC, the PV and the lines, waiting on new clips to position the ends of the hardlines.

Location: Minor Hill, TN | Its getting there with time and patience it will get done. I will start the restoration on mine this winter. Right now I am enjoying it taking it to a couple of cruise ins , car shows and it will only be in 1 Christmas parade this year.
I have found some parts for my car and they are on my watch list on ebay. When I get the cash I hit buy now or bid on the item I want to stock up on spare parts. |

Location: atlanta | Just had the guts to open the new white covertible top I bought off Ebay about a year ago, I didn't expect much for $35.00, but man it's beautimus!, I think with the Baby Blue paint and the blue and white interior and the whitewalls, it'll look better than the black top. A shout out the W. Weiland for the "heads up" on the top on Ebay, Thanks Wayne.

but will harden about like window glazing . still coming along nice ------------------------------------------------later
pssss. did you use an adjustable prop. valve ? |

Location: atlanta | Thanks Steve, appreciate the compliment, Yes, an adjustable Wilwood valve, Chuck. By the way Chuck, i need a recipe for the poly, I talked to Neilson yesterday about a cam, lifters and V springs, I'd like to go to a spin on filter, won't the Hot Heads bypass valve work?, the timing cover on the 61 motor has corrosion eating into one bolt hole, i have a 66 motor out back, will the timing cover off of it work? not sure about timing marks, have to look, what harmonic balancer will work, SBM, 318-340 steel crank? I know there's a list in the Big Book on things that will interchanbe, but not sure if it's for pre and post Poly's. |

Location: atlanta | As of now, it'll be .030 over, P-600 3 X 2 intake and Ford ECG carbs, I have a set of the Austrailian Fountain aluminum valve covers, and a set of the Spitfire shorty headers. I'll use a Neilson cam, lifters and valve springs, a Flowcooler water pump, a roller timing set, MP or MSD distributor ad a Crane HI-6 CD box and coil. I do have an old Mallory dual point, and all you need is one set to trigger the CD box. This plan could change if I find a complete 383 sonoramic motor and trans on the side of the road somewhere. |

Location: Perth Australia | LA 318 timing cover fits, its just got the marks on the left side of the engine
You can use your original pointer on it and time it as per usual
The trap though is that there is 1 bolt hole that they deleted on the LA that the poly has, it down the left side about 1/2 way down.
You need to plug this hole before the timing cover goes on, because it covers it a little bit, I just used a bolt that I cut of and wound it in with
gasket silicone and then staked it to make sure it wouldnt come loose

Location: WHEELING,WV.>>>HOME OF WWVA | my cam is a 480 lift , duration 274 , overlap 54 , from schneider in cal. , 318 poly solid lifters . the springs and caps are comp cams cause i didn't like the cap fitment on the ones i got from the left
coast . if the old cap locks look good , reuse the old ones . if not schneider can fix you up with new ones but they don't have any new 318 poly blank cams to grind the last time i looked . the way it
was explained to me , that 480 was a good street choice and should have no match up issues like a wilder cam . the 480 will give you all the kick ass you want , especially when using stock heads , which
i'm also doing . those trips you got are they dumpers with plugged idle circuits . if they aren't they'll be hell to tune . with the ends being true dumpers just the center one needs bolted on at start up . then
when you get the break in done add the other 2 true dumpers . if they aren't true dumpers about the only way to set em up is by vacuum , which might be problematic depending on how wore the trip cores
were before rebuilding . butttttttttt you could use the ends as dummies and only use the center 2bbl --------------------------------------------------later

You ned to stop comparing this red car to the black car you had or you'll never be happy with this car. Why not recreate this red car into a copy of the black one, i think that's what will satisfy you the most. |

I doubt anyone will notice. I found an originally white 1961 public service commission tag that I thought would be cool for my green wagon. I repainted it black because I liked that color better and held my breath that they would accept a Public Service tag on a passenger car. They didn't flinch, and so I ride!

Your right Roger, but getting over a loss like that takes time. It hasen't even been a year yet. Steph is moving forward at her own pace and seems to be getting past it pretty good. Hell ...... I still greave about cars I shouldn't have sold years ago, let alone lost to a tragic event like a fire.
I don't think a clone is the answer either. She will, in time, make a connection with the red Fury and memories of the black will be laid to rest.

Location: atlanta | I'll post it here and also in the wanted section, I need a 61 Plymouth (preferably a Fury) drivers side front fender real bad, this one may be useable, but it does have some damage and rust through under the headlight bucket. If any one has one to sell, PLEASE contact me, the closer to Atlanta the better, but not a deal breaker. |

Location: atlanta | disillusionment is starting to set in again, this car will NEVER be what I want it to be, and I honestly don't have the bucks to do it like I want, guess I'll have to bite the bullet and make it presentable, and as long as i have fun with it, that's ok too. This car reminds me of the old Robert Palmer song, simply irreistable, " She's so fine there's no telling where the money went, She's all mine there's no other way to go" I'm a freakin' Virgo, wadda ya expect, guess that's why I ended up in Electrical/electronic/phys/mech calibration in the Navy, Ya know the old Calibration sayin', Ain't no such thing as close enough, even perfect" :-)

The motors together, intake and VC's mocked up for now, .030 over, new pistons/bearing/Cam from Camcraft, Cloyes timing chain, P600 with 94's, engine/flywheel/clutch presure plate all balanced. The dash is also done, new fuel and temp gauges, new spaeker grill, everything cleaned up, repainted the dash ( painted it three times before it was right ) and speaker grill the original color. Have new sound deadener and carpet to install this weekend or next.

Mick, I'm gonna let a pro massage it out with some dolly's and an acetelyne torch. I have the piece for the end, just need to make sure they are equal, other wise the bumper will be off.

Heated it up and beat the crap out of it to get the rails going where they were supposed to go
Mine was about as bad as yours, so I cut the bumper mounting plate off through the welds then lots of measuring when I put it back just to get the bumper alignment right
It wasnt really that hard to do actually, I dont think anyone would be able to tell that it had been mangled now
Thought I had a picture of it, but I dont, just an after one

Location: Perth Australia | Wont be very easy once you put panels on
Just needs to be a mirror of the other side
I used the cross member as a datum, made a centre line to work off to make sure the angle was right and the distance out from the cross member was right
and a strait edge to make sure it wasnt tilted up or back
Getting the "Y" close enough is ok, getting the mounting plate right is more crucial
Same distance apart, any angle sideways and any tilt angle
There is room for adjustment, but not much
It would be best to tack it on and then assemble the front up to check, then pull it apart again, but thats a whole lot of work

Location: atlanta | They are ECG-5's, 185 cfm each (55/56 ferd) end idle's blocked, end carb choke flaps removed and sealed, center manual choke, haven't decided if i'm gonna run all three straight, progressive, or fake the end carbs, at any rate, i'm gonna get some real good progressive linkage so i can go any way i wanna.
When i'm ready to crank the motor for break in, i'll just run the center carb, that'll eliminate some probs with the 3 X 2 setup i may encounter. Not sure about a vac port for an advance on the dist.

Location: atlanta | Change o' plans, i've decided to run the three carbs "straight", I did some calc's and the center carb will not be enough to sustain the 318 + .030. the 2 bbl's on 318's are somewhere around 300cfm, the Holley three bolt "94" ECG's are about 200 tops, so a center won't flow enough to run the motor, and progressive linkage won't solve the problem.
Chuck had asked about the carbs, well since i hadn't run them yet, i took another look at them, thankfully i was lied to by the person i bought them from, the idle circuits aren't plugged, great!! I may have another problem with them though, when i opened the tops and removed the accel pumps, the anti drain back check balls are stuck in the orifice, at least on the two i've opened so far, i'm hoping a soak in some lacquer thinner or carb cleaner will loosen them up, i hope to god their not staked in there, which wouldn't make any sense, and the carbs would be useless with no main jet flow. I also verified the internal power valve were there since i'll also need those also, the ends don't need choke's, so i'm okay there. I will install adjustable main jets, since changing jets with trips is a giant pita. I also will build my own linkage, since the arms are already installed on the extended throttle shafts and straight linkage is a lot simpler, the plan is to bolt the bases to the intake and build the linkage with the ability to verify the throttle plate positions, ain't gonna be pretty, but i gotta bring this thing to life.

Location: atlanta | If i could plug one jet and blow air through the other, the ball may come out, if it does, it'll either put my eye out or land somewhere around your house, or a zerk fitting and tube and pump it out with grease through the jet orifice, if the balls staked in there, i'm screwed.

Location: atlanta | ("Houston, we've had a problem here") I mean, Houston we have brakes!!, yes sports fans, thanks you (insert your favorite deity here) something went as anticipated here in " impossible restoration carport land", where dreams not only drive you to the drink, i mean brink, they sometimes do come true. installed the final front two brake lines and bled the system, "Houston, I have a pedal"
installed the new modifed oil dip****, installed the cut to fit wires, new plugs, dissy, yes DISSY!, new vac ( I sent it to NASA and then to NIST for verification) advance. Wired the coil, have the connectors for the oil and oil press senders.
Also installed the rest of the transplanted 66 Fury A/C stuff, compressor, brackets, alt adj bar, 6 blade fan ( may upgrade to a Hayden), next is the exhaust install.
I have a Painless dual 40 amp circuit breaker and relay box to install, and will mod the high/low beams with new relays so the light switch doesn't have to carry the amp load.

Nice ..... Nice.... & Nice........ Looking good Roger. |

LOL
On a serious note, I was on the USS Midway in the Indian Ocean, Wayne Newton came on a Christmas for a show, He was 100% genuine and impressed me the most of all the entertainers that ever came on board, in mt 13 years of see duty, the worst, Bob Hope, he was all about taping the show for the " look at me, I'm entertaining the troops" show to play in the USA, what a joke and self serving a**hole he was. Reba McEntire was also a great lady and did us proud.`
By the way, I'm only here to amuse myself, I could care less if ya like my car in it's final iteration, side pipes, hood scoop, scollops, hooded headlights, blue dots, raked rear, skirts, and all, unless, ya wanna write me a check ta do what you do to what you dodo.

Sorry about that folks, some misdirected anger and frustration over some events that transpired the last few days, I'll be more careful about what and how I post in the future, it wasn't really directed at anyone here, and i DO appreciate all the support and responses i receive, once again, my apologies.
I didn't remove the post or edit it, just wanted people to see that i screwed up posting that and i take responsibility, i'm sure we've all had days like that.

To late Waldo, another member sent a " couple of friends", yes, a member here flew them out from the left coast on a private jet with the correct t stat bolts, installed them and clocked them at the factory spec'd 87 degree's to the left of the third bolt on the water pump housing. They loved the car, but begged me not to tell the boss.

Thanks Chuck, I hope so, and as usual it turned into a fiasco, after screwing up the pipe hangers that the shields attach to, i had to leave it overnight, that meant another days rent on the trailer and my time, and gas money, when i went to pick it up the next day it looked pretty good, that is till he rolled it off the rack and the hanger he extended, caught and ripped the shield off and knock the pipe back about and inch, he was so pissed ( as was I) , he said the job was free, just get it outta here and don't bring it back. Could this be Christine's long lost younger sister? |

| If you want to get the end carbs to work, progressive linkage for a later mechanical Six Pack setup should work, and is so simple you could duplicate it yourself. As long as all three carbs have accelerator pump, it works great. Super Stock Six Pack carbs had 3 accelerator pumps and no vacuum actuation. I drove a setup like that one the street, daily, in the mid-'90s in Atlanta. I loved it. I had about 1/2 travel on the center carb before the outers would open. Once your foot "learns" it, it's awesome! |

I actually had the Weiand tunnel ram 6 pack with three 2300 Holley's, the were all mech, no vac, except the center. I had a .060 440 in a 71 Demon, but alas someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse. the three 2300's with vac pods are for stock street motors, ala the one year only AAR/T/A, and the BB 5 packs, These are Holley ECG-5s are 1 1/16 throats, the biggest available other than the 2110 bug sprayers, the end carbs are choke free and the idles blocked, and don't have pumps, the center will support my motor, weakly, and i don't wanna run straight linkage, but, we'll see. |

| Well, without pumps they're almost certain to bog on opening unless it's very, very slow--hence the vacuum pods on the factory Six Pack/Six Barrel setups. You'd have to be pretty judicious with your right foot to make non-pumped end carbs transition well to WOT.
I had the Weiand tunnel ram as well, but didn't use it. I put the Super Stock carbs (4791 center/4792 outers, if memory serves, but those may be the 340 S/S carbs) on a factory '69.5 A12 Edelbrock intake instead. Not as much power but more fun on the street, and kept the element of surprise! |

I thought of that, but i thought they might look silly on the roof, and because of the fabric tearing, they may not last long. |

Yep, those numbers sound right, i got my vac pods and accel pumps mixed up, all three had accel pumps and no vac on any, full mech setup, iirc i had to put blocks under them for linkage clearance.
These little holleys on the ends are called "dumpers", you can set the linkage to bring them in at a certain percent of the middle carbs linkage position, when there's enough vac/air flow through the venturi to let them work, maybe somewhere around 70 t0 80 %, make sense?
OOPS, the ECG's ends do have pumps, don't know what i was thinking.

A little more progress today, replaced the rear universal joint and installed the driveshaft, install the new battery and ground cables, installed the new swedged battery terminals and covers, ran a new #10 wire with a fusible link from the alt to the the starter relay, installed a fusible link and bypassed the ammeter, removed and replaced the alt and new electronic regulator after having them checked out, and i ain't talking Autozone, i mean a dedicated auto electrical shop with a guy that knows his doodoo. Gonna be real soon for cranking the motor.

Location: atlanta | Worked on the motor, trying to keep it running for the break in, the new starter started acting up yesterday and was making a hell of a noise, didn't want to mess up the flywheel so called it a day, today we dropped the left header and exhaust, removed the starter, i had another new one here and we compared the bendix movement and determined the starter wasn't extending far enough to engage the flywheel correctly, the new starter solved that problem. I could get the motor to run, but only by priming and filling the fuel bowl, today we took the line loose and had no gas past the regulator, next we filled a container with gas and it sucked some into the pump, but still no gas,i'm thinking bad regulator, removed the input line to the regulator, nothing, went a got a new fuel pump, fixed the problem, tomorrow, re-install the exhaust, and try to break the motor in. Gotta admit the motor sounds pretty good for a ballpark dial in, haven't set the timing or played with the jetting, and the first motor i've built in many moons. The way things are going, i may be cruising by Christmas, and i mean Christmas this year. |

A 12G wire from the alt to the headlight switch power lug with a fusible link at the switch end. The 12G original power in to the ammeter from the starter relay lug is disconnected from the ammeter and a fusible link installed and runs to the tie point for all the rest of the circuits and as a return for battery power if the alt is not engaged. |

It sounds like you have 2 supplies going to the headlight switch?
The alternator should have B+ all the time (not like the generator), so there is no need to have a wire to cover if the alternator is not working
If you have 2 supplies going to the same place, each with its own fuse, you can basically add the 2 fuses together and come up with what the circuit is fused at, as an example, 2 wires, each with a 20 amp fuse coming from the same place and going to the same place will be a 40 amp circuit
(before anyone goes nuts about some stupid long formula to get an exact current rating, this is an indication and an advice not to have a double supply)

I didn't personally do the repair on the frame, I don't have the equipment, and probably the skills either. The guys did a great job, measured it six ways from Sunday before welding anything permanently.
I now have a new problem, the column shifter has no spring tension when shifting out of 1st to find neutral, it's a hard place to access to see exactly what's going on in here. |

Location: atlanta | it's for sale for the right price, but i can't even come close to breaking even,i did turn down 15K the other day, besides i have been fighting this thing for so long, it's become like climbing a mountain and almost reaching the summit only to have to climb (or fall) back down, i really don't want to do that. This will never be the car i envisioned, but it's the best i can do.
Baby Blue? well that's in the plan, but i'm trying to at least have a driver, and i think that's the biggest mistake i made with this car, if there's one thing i learned, it's the old saying,"get it running, get it right" and it's so true, that is unless ya have deep pockets and plenty of time, i don't have either, it was probably foolish for me to attempt it in the first place. |

I have the same dilemma with my 60, had calls for it, but not even a tire kicker has come to annoy me, and it will never be like what I pictured in my head, so if it dont sell (which I dont think its going to), then it will be fixed to go and drive and maybe, made nicer later
Looking better all the time Fenix

Hang in there, fenix! I'm low budget too, and I learned years ago
that if you can't drive it, you can't fully enjoy it. That's why
I decided to get my Plymouth running/driving just the way it is,
even though it looks like an old Dawg that's been wollering
around in the mud!
BTW, if you need a hand, I'm only 60 miles West of Atlanta; feel
free to PM me if you want.
You said the magic word before..... Schlitz!! Mmmmmmmm, it just
so happens to be my favorite beer! |

This has been a long haul to even get HER where SHE is, i have never seen a car as uncooperative as this one! my helper and i were putting the hood on the other day, my side was going fine, i heard a squealing sound and told him to get some PB blaster and put it on the stud and blind nut, about that time i hear a snap, yep, the blind nut came loose, since i don't own a welder, and couldn't weld anyway with this defib in me, it's off to the shop, another 120 bucks shot up a swine's posterior. I now have front seal leaking in the trans, still have to extract the exhaust studs, seal them, and reinstall them, this will be done a a local shop with a lift, i'm not getting under HER again, it would take me so long to get out from under HER and up on my feet that i would either freeze to death, or starve, which ever came first!

Location: atlanta | yep, i remember back in the day, had a 55 chevy, had a scoop off of an F-600 ford dump truck, the big ford trucks ran them backwards for some reason, probably to pull hot air out of the engine bay, those scoops would be outta place on a 61, this is old school stuff, anyway, why do you ask?

She's looking FANTASTIC, Roger!!! One of these days when
I got enough extra ca$h for gas, I'm gonna cruise on over there
to visit... (and I'll bring some brewskies) Tain't easy
but you're doing very very well under the circumstances, Bro!!
And, by the way, I LOVE the mascara around those headlights!!!
darn, that looks WAY cool!! You're almost finished with
her, so instead of looking back at how much/long it has taken,
focus on how far you have to go to get her done, as if you just
bought it today. |

Location: atlanta | Little update on the Whack-A -Mole 61 Plymouth. Had a power steering leak, had two pumps, both leaking, found a local hyd shop, waited several day, picked it up, not pumping, took it back, picked it up the next day, works, No turn sigs/brake/tail lights, badly gummed up switch, one contact recessed, no good, fixed that, no horns, bad relay, 2nd relay bad, horns work, but only one, new set of horns. Drive it about two miles and start hearing a clunking noise, pull over, drivers side rear wheel has two lugs missing and one lug has pulled the stud loose, so there's no way to take the lug off, and no way to cut the lug, some of the other lugs are loose on other wheels I may have to get someone with a plasma cutter to cut the center out of the rim so i can get between the rim and the brake drum with a wiz wheel or sawzall .....................cue Sonny and Cher

I get a neoprene freeze plug and install it, seals it good, well the brakes were feeling spongy, found a leaking wheel cylinder at the rear, replaced it and bled the brakes, much better, take it down the road, SOB, another freeze plug blows out, what the hell!!!! |

Location: North Australia | Roger, you is one funny Dude. Like any relationship, there are ups and downs
That old car has spirit though (evil?), and obviously you have too. Keep at it, you are close to taming it now I think.
Those convex plugs are problematic, I had dramas too with my 413 head plugs which were installed by an engine builder. I put the block plugs in and they are good (I am not an auto mechanic but fitter and turner).
Below links to some reading on the subject.
Hope this helps.
