Found this on the Imperial site. My cable does not have this adjusting wheel. My cable has two O-rings and no adjusting wheel.
They must have changed it along the way. What should be used to hold and adjust that cable position?

If you car didn't have the cast iron tf you'll most likely need a cable or that cable end for your car. That's what should fill that shift cable hole you posted pics of.

The adjustment wheel didn't appear until later than '57...around '59?

Yes apparently around 59.5. I found another reference to that. So I have a simple slider fork arrangement that attaches to the bottom of the trans control box. Just need a pic of one now.
I also found the O-ring measurements on another thread.
