Trying to locate some wheel cylinders for my 1960 Plymouth. Parts stores want to
know if car is equipped with 3 platform or 2 platform brake shoes. I understand this
would be necessary info if I wanted to replace shoes, but the wheel cylinders are centrally
located between the shoes. Why would # of shoe platforms matter?

Thanks.

As I recall it, the slot in the 2 platform (early) cylinders are not so wide as the 3 platform cylinders. I guess that it would be possible to machine up the slot....

In this filmstrip, "Tech" explains to us the difference between brakes. The slot width for wheel cyl mounting on the 3-platorm design is wider (around 2:30 in the video) than the earlier design.

From what I know, the 1960 models should all have the 3-platform design.

The changeover from 2pf to 3pf brakes was in Dec. '58. So all 60 Chrysler corp vehicles had 3pf brakes.
