Location: North Australia | Has anyone a spec sheet, or maintenance instruction giving COG for our cars? Specifically looking for Imperial numbers (1960)
I am installing a 2 post hoist and the Imperial is the test weight!

Its normally somewhere inline with the front seat on cars I have lifted
That Imp of yours will be like a baptism of fire for that hoist, I can hear it complaining now

They're fun to install Steve, I was cheap and nasty and wanted to do mine meself.
Took myself and Dad 3 days to get mine up, made in China, rated at 4.2 tonnes , I've had a Bits-are-missing Pajero 4WD on it with no problems ( oh, and the 59 Dodge )

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | The center of gravity should be approximately 59" from the center of the front wheel with a 126" wheelbase. If I'm not wrong, the Imperials have 129" wheelbase, so hypothetically the COG would be 62" from the center of the front wheel. |

Location: Under the X in Texas | I've never seen center of gravity specification printed for any car. Its a variable when putting a car on a lift if for no other reason than you'd have a 100 lb variation depending on whether the gas tank is empty or full and more if there is junk in the trunk, or not.
There is only so much reach of the arms of your lift. Generally speaking you want the forward arms lifting the frame close behind the front wheels because of the weight of the engine and transmission. The rear arms will reach most of the way to the front end of the rear spring hangers.
You will see mechanics using this test if they aren't positive or are just practicing safety. Raise the car two to three feet into the air. Rock the car by hand on the rear bumper. If you hear creeking or anything moves, let it down and adjust. |

Location: North Australia | There is a good reason you are called the 'Wizard'. Thanks Mate. This Imperial is 129 inch wheelbase, so 62" is a good starting point.
SOT, the rocking test sounds like it would be good practice with every car/lift, I will be doing that.
Mick, I might creep up on the test weight, I will start out with the tinny first, then maybe the 'Cruiser, then the Imp!
I bought a BendPak 4.2 ton 2 post overhead lift at a fire sale last year and finally got it erected, will finish it off this week hopefully. Looks like a real good lift.
I will print this COG chart for future reference. My reference folder is about 2 inches thick now, and growing!

The top view could be a Valiant with an open mind, but the side view really is a '59 Dodge Kingsway
