Can I unscrew the big round nut at the bottom of the dash mirror stalk to remove the dash mirror without anything falling off inside the dash?

Location: Vancouver, Washington		Actually need to get under the dash and unscrew the big nut holding it to the dash. There is a rectangular washer that will fall once the nut is undone.
