| I picked up the 1955 Chry 300 motor/tranny and it is center stage (not really) in the shop. it came on a stand so it can be started. The gent sent me a video of it running- was in his dad's 300.
I am poking at it to discover the 1955 components. e.g., when I went to start it, discovered it is a 6 volt + grd. from research, Chry went 12 v in 56 ?
all fluids were removed prior to shipping. maybe today we will fire it up.
Question on the tranny. I can't find the tranny operates. there is a swing arm on the left with a long slotted rod on it. this rod looks like a kickdown type. the arm swings just under 180 degrees but there is no feel of a detent holding it in gear. there are 2 electric screw in units, one on each side. 1 has a single terminal, the other has 2 terminals.
I can't imagine lack of ATF would effect the shift "feel".
any help would be appreciated.
TIA

Note the two mechanical controls in one shaft there. One is the shift control, the other the kickdown control.
The single pole electrical unit is the Neutral safety switch and the other two pole unit is the back up lights.
It's a two speed trans so your going to have R N D 1. That is the order. The 55 had a mechanical selector shift on the dash.
In 56 they switched to a cable based unit and late 56 it went to the Torqueflight 3sp cable shift unit. This is when the push buttons on the dash appeared in the cars. |
