Location: McComb, Mississippi | Well, I've moved up in the car world. I first owned a Plymouth, currently own a Dodge Polara, and just bought a 1963 Imperial Crown. It is an all original car, loaded with options, and leather seats. The interior will need to be redone and I'm going to do it in red leather like the following picture shows. I'll probably completely rebuild the mechanicals and paint. It'll be shipped to MS in April. Just thought I'd share some photos.

Location: McComb, Mississippi | Thanks guys. I wasn't sure how you guys would react to a car that is not technically a forward look. I have big plans for this car and I'm going to keep everything 100% stock. |

The red interior after you install it will really make that black color pop as they say on the "Counting Cars" TV show. Good thing you're going to keep it stock and not try to lower it like those cats on "Gas Monkey Garage". |

Hope you get That Girl (TV show..) as part of the deal, too.
You're now an Imperialist!
The car is conservatively styled (to say the least), BUT: it is a DRIVING machine; it won't wallow
on the highway.

I don't do this for profit. I do it because I truly enjoy cars. I did actually make money on the Dodge, but I don't see them as investments or toys. The Plymouth and the Dodge were given good homes and they aren't rotting in the weeds somewhere. So the way I see it. I have rescued two cars and given them a second chance. |

Location: McComb, Mississippi | Update. I've spent the past few months getting all the mechanical stuff sorted out. I won't bore you all with the details. I've painted the floor with por15 then put on some sound insulation. The seats just got back from the upholsterer and I couldn't be happier with the way they turned out. Still waiting on the door panels. I still need to install the carpet and a few small odds and ends. I'll update again when I have something to tell

| Very nice. There are things I like and dislike about that year but overall its a good car. I am a big fan of the 57, 58, 59 imperials. I have a 57 coupe and 58 LeBaron sedan. Hoping to one day get a 59 Plymouth fury 2 door with swivel seat. Anyway not to derail your project. Keep the pics coming. We all like to see restoration updates.
Does that year still have full frame rails as well? |

Location: McComb, Mississippi | A while back, a freeze plug finally gave out at idle. I'm taking this opportunity to pull the engine, and paint the firewall. Upon disassembly, I have found that the engine has VERY little wear. The cylinder walls still have hone marks and a very slight ridge at the top of the cylinders. I'm going to just replace all gaskets, hv oil pump, hardened distributor driveshaft, timing set, freeze plugs, valve springs and seals, and the torque converter seal. I will be running synthetic oils throughout the car. I will also be adding relays for theignition, electric choke, and high/low beams. I am debating on adding a mopar performance electronic ignition. I have wrapped all underhood wiring with that plastic wire loom stuff. I'm trying to do small things to improve the overall performance of the car. |

Location: McComb, Mississippi | Much has happened in these past few months. I rebuilt the engine with all new parts. It is bored .040 over. The radiator was recored and that hurt my pocketbook. It runs great! The front suspension has been rebuilt and has had an alignment. I installed the carpet and seat belts. New exhaust system and man oh man is she quiet!! The radio is now converted over to FM and has an auxiliary back for mp3s. I still need to either solder the evaporator or find a good used one so the air conditioning will work. The rear bushings and shocks need to be put on as well as the steering shaft insulator. I still need to tidy up the wiring under the hood but that can wait. It's been an expensive journey with lots more to go. I've enjoyed every minute of it.... Well, almost every minute.

I noticed the "Ted's Tuna Boats" tag in one of the photos. Did you buy the car from him? I had the pleasure of a long conversation
with him a few months ago--he's a neat guy, really loves old cars.

Location: McComb, Mississippi | It's been quite a while since I have given an update. Since the last time I posted, I've replaced the rear strut rods, revulcanized driveshaft center support, and added front disc brakes. The car is completely mechanically sound and is a true joy to own. The engine and rear axle both run synthetic oil and neither leak. I've updated a few things along the way such as Mopar electronic ignition, '71 Imperial alternator with regulator, LED headlights and taillights, and the above mentioned disc brakes. I added relays for headlights, ignition, and air conditioning compressor clutch. I bypassed the ammeter and added a thick wire with fusible link from the alternator output lug to the starter relay. I've managed to get all of the accessories working except for the automatic headlight dimmer. My favorite gadget is the auto pilot.
There is still much more work to do, paint and body are the big ones. The next project will be getting the automatic parking brake release to work. The big Imp is my daily driver, so the progress is slow. However, the car is reliable and is extremely comfortable. I will start posting pictures more frequently with progress. |
