Location: Napa, California | I know I know, the "Stock Only" guys won't like this but I believe there is room for everybody in this wonderful hobby.
Step 1, remove the inner support bracket from the door edge of a 57 fender and install into the door edge of the 62 fender. This puts the proper side arch in the 62 fender that then matches the side arch of the 57 door.
Step 2, remove the lower 8" from the 62 fender and add the lower 8" from the 57 fender to the 62 fender. The inner door bracket locates the 57 fender piece to its proper location on the 62 fender. This step is needed to change the lower corner shape of the 62 fender to match the 57 door corner and to match the 62 wheel well lip to the 57 rocker panel.
Step 3, as with the lower corner of the 62 fender, the upper corner will need to be swapped with 57 corners.
Step 4, add the rear edge of a 57 hood to the rear edge of the 62 hood to get the proper shape of the 57 cowl. Also the 57 NYer is 1/2" wider measured thru the firewall then the 62 NYer/300. The 62 hood needs to be widened by adding 1/4' to both edges of the hood. Use 1/4" X 1/8" X 48" flat stock welded to both edges of the hood to widen the hood. The flat stock is then ground down from 1/4' at the rear edge of the hood to zero at the front end of the 48" flat stock.
Not easy but very doable.

Location: Layton, Utah | I like it ! Keep the pictures coming. Yea, you will get crucified by the purists, and to some extent I like them left stock in appearance. But a custom every now and then is great. You will have a great tail end with a great front end. Now it just need to have the correct treatment of chrome and stainless. That's one reason I like DeSoto more than Chrysler was because DeSoto's had a ton of stainless. So I hope you will be installing some cool trim. Keep the pictures coming ! Now if you put a small block Chevy in it you will be hearing from me, not in a good way ?. Flash red and covered in stainless would look sweet !!! |

with 57 Fireflite side trim and parking lights.

Awesome! I would like to see a Chrysler/DeSoto with the Plymouth/Dodge fast back roof.
Here is the side view of the 57NYer with the 61 Plymouth big back window fast back. The 57NYer side trim stays as does the 62 300 front grille, bumper and head light trim. The Plymouth stainless trim stays as well. I want the car to look as if it was a "Concept Car"built by Chrysler in the 50s. Thanks for the nice remarks.

Location: Parts Unknown | The stock 57 DeSoto/Chrysler high glass coupe roof is great looking, but nothing
as wild as what the 60-61 Dodge/Plymouth coupes got. THAT roof is over-the-top
for slippery style. I can see this combo as something the Styling Dept. would have
messed with. The 61-62 nose is a whole lot of rounded for the 57 body, in my opinion,
but there isn't anything else besides the original sheetmetal that is pointy like the
original, so what is a better option ? I think I'd go with the 58 Saratoga side trim
with no color sweep if it were me, but the work looks good and what the heck ? !!
Let's see this thing come together !

Location: Napa, California | I appreciate any and all comment about my project, and I must say I somewhat have to agree with Doctor Desoto's comments about the "rounded" 61, 62 front clip. I tried a test fit of a 61 fender on the car and stared at it from every angle. I was very undecided about using the 61/62 front end until I picked up a 20 ft piece of string. I ran the string from the tip of the fin at the rear to the tip of the fender at the front of the car. The top line of fin and top line of the fender alignment was perfect. I will post some full side view and some 3/4 front and rear pics soon. Also the black front clip and white body does not translate the lines and looks of the car very well at all. As far as what will I use to power the car, there are only two chooses, the original 392 HEMI or I push the car! |

What he said. This has gotta be the biggest and most frustrating cliffhanger of a thread on this site. |
