| well first thing is the cars value? and I will need to redo interior front and back seats and bright work on knobs will need attention but not bad at all. cars undercarriage as well as engine is very solid and can drive anywhere but engine needs beautified. purchase for around 20 grand. is this okay? not Hemi but the super red ram with all new brakes lines wheel cylinders and flow master duals. |

Location: Parts Unknown | I think you got it for "half price", based on the fact that they are rare as
hell and no one is selling. Sell it tomorrow and just try to find another for
under $40K. You'll spend half that amount just in the search.
The "value" on a car like this is not a dollar amount. It is more of a balance
between finding the unobtainium and how many years a person will waste
of the finite number they have left searching for one.
Consider yourself one lucky SOB, first in finding one at all, and secondly,
for getting a helluva good price.
You done real good.

Location: Parts Unknown | I would temper your interest in dollar value and focus more on quality of life value,
especially with the kids. Life isn't about money, and when the game is over, we don't
look back on what all our sh!t is worth. No, we look back on the valuable times we
spent with good people. Raising kids up to only see dollar signs is setting them up to
be real PITA's. You have a top shelf desirable car there. Go enjoy it and to hell with
what kind of money it will bring. I wish my Fireflite was still a $500 beater. It distracts
from where the real value of having a car like that is, turns genuine car guys into money
grubbing douchebags. Used to be the only people who came around to talk cars with me
either hated it (finned cars are hideously ugly, don'cha know ?) or they were genuinely
into the car for what it is. Anymore, all anyone wants to talk about is money.

| Thanks Dr.Desoto, I have chosen the classic car world for that exact thing, I appreciate the people and the history in the automobile industry. and my twins and I go to car show together and take care of our cars together and I feel it is something simple and cool we do as a family. I shall pay heed to your suggestions of value, well taken thx. as for the upholstery goes I think the back seat is original, actually am told entire car is and paint is with lacquer paint but I haven't uncovered the front to see the damage yet. will soon and will be doing my best to go back to as close to original as possible. It will be tricky for I am a single father working on low wages but it will happen one day |

Location: Parts Unknown | I was at SMS last week, perusing their inventory for a project. I saw the
fabric that was in my former 56 Custom Sierra, but did not really look to see
what they had in stock for 56 Dodge fabrics. Man, they have some beautiful
fabrics !!!

Location: NY & VT | I believe Chrysler was using enamel at that time, not lacquer, unlike General Motors' "Magic Mirror" lacquer finish.
Re; SMS: I wish I was within driving distance, given their rep I'd much prefer to go and see what's available in person and hand carry out any fabric and vinyl I might need. |

Location: Under the X in Texas | I visited SMS three years ago. Office is a bit cramped with order desks, original sample books and their incredible "samples" drawers. I definitely had to ask for and receive the permission of the owner to take these photos. NO visiting of the production room to the rear of the warehouse.

Location: Parts Unknown | The "love" part with SMS comes from their products and service. The "hate"
part comes from impatient silly people who think they need to offer a drive-thru
window sort of speed. They operate at SMS speed, and if one places their order
a year before they will get to the upholstery work, there will be no issues at all.
I placed mine for the Plaza as I began to tear the car down. I had new door
panels and all the fabric in hand before I had finished the body work .... long
before I needed to be concerned with the interior.
Deal with SMS with a proper lead time and you'll be thrilled with them. Expect
a two week turnaround and you'll be a hater too.

====================================================
Natural gas was discovered around Muncie in the 1880's and the City offered it up
for free to large businesses that would move to their City. Hemingray had been in
Covington, Ky. for decades, but opened a new plant there 04 Sept. 1888. Both Ball
and Hemingray sourced their sand from a big dune in Michigan that was entirely flattened
to produce that characteristic Ball/Hemingray glass.
There is no book on coding. Our esteemed archivist/researcher recently passed on
took notes for decades, studying cars and their codes, to piece together what this or
that meant. He was primarily Dodge, but some corporate stuff crossed over. Your
request is really driving home just what large shoes old Neil filled.
I have done similar research for my DeSoto. Basically what one has to do is get an
original parts book, any and all factory product updates, dealer sales literature (not
the stuff they handed out to buyers, but the stuff the salesmen ordered cars with, and
then reference it all against the cars one sees and their codes to verify. It is no small
undertaking.
And to think Neil could dial it in pretty much for any Dodge from 55 to 61 !
