Location: Williams California | Anyone heard from Brent this week?
I drove up past Spokane last week to pick up a car, and we were going to meet up for lunch afterwards. There was a terrible windstorm the night before, 100 MPH wind, many trees were toppled, roofs torn off, and lots of accidents on the road. I tried calling, and left PM's here, but no reply. Perhaps it's a matter of the power still being out there, but it still raises concern.

Only way to make it better would be to convert it to a 59
Hope he is ok and just tottering about in his model T

whats his real name?
Brent Berger's the name, De Sotos are the game.
Let's hope the old boy ain't pushin' up daisies jist yet.
Like Don said, he's probably out there hustling car show trophies - or pickin' out red paint for his Fireflite.
I like this thread. A good roast for a friend who temporarily can't defend himself.

I thought I saw him in Motor City trying to trade his DeSoto even-steven for a baby blue 1999 Miata. He was telling the salesman, "Look this is a classic. They don't make 'em like this anymore." To which the salesman replied, "Thank God!"

He's finally seen the light of bling and is in a transformation stage. He'll emerge at any moment to show off his new goodies. It is either that or he has been doing the tango with Afghans again. Either way, it is going to be fun when he finally emerges. |

Location: Parts Unknown | The Doctor is in.
Yeah, we had a windstorm, alright ! Tore the #@! roof right off my shop and
made chop suey of the power grid. Without power for 7 days and still only have
spotty web access via a backdoor wi-fi access. Things are getting back to normal
around town, but every contractor in town has a 6 month backlog of work now !
With no power at home or at work, I grabbed my logging gear and spent a week
cutting trees off of houses and clearing roads, etc. It was a helluva mess.
Somehow, I got my roof peeled 100% and wrapped the whole lid the day before
another snow came - whew ! Now, temps are hovering in the low twenties/high
teens and I will just hope for a mild winter (wind-wise) to allow the tarping to do
it's job until warm weather allows a proper roof installation.
Thanks for the "roast". Got a good laugh. I may be "opinionated", but freely
admit that opinions are like axxholes ..... everybody has at least one ! Mine is
just another fart in the great chorus of flatulence.

Location: Parts Unknown | Many had it far worse than I did. Most of these stupid fools getting hit with trees
because they thin them (leaving those remaining to take the full force of the wind)
or they water them, causing the trees to not put down long tap roots like they would
naturally, OR just the obvious planting of non-native species like spruce that act like
giant sails and have a naturally shallow root "footprint". The storm really tore these
up and dropped them on every possible power line in my zip code area - which was
the worst hit of the entire storm - or on houses, shops, cars, etc.
The night OF the storm, roads were so blocked with trees, downed power lines,
smashed cars that I had to zig-zag all over the place to find clear paths, driving across
lawns and using sidewalks just to get home. It was crazy ! The next morning, I got
up at dawn, ran out to Cheney (about 20 miles away) and got my chainsaw, chokers,
drop lines, etc. and came back into town to help those who had REAL messes on their
hands. No sense staying home or going to work. Power was out everywhere.

WOW! At least one '59 Royal Lancer droptop with some kind of D-500 mill (or at least the badging), and both with those great wheel covers. Those spinners were very difficult to "borrow" if they had locks on the valve stems, plus a broken valve stem makes one heckuva screeching noise when it gets in that condition late at night.

I heard Brent traded in his frumpy ol' De Soto for a new red car with some snappy styling! He still had to pay sticker price for it.
He will now be known as Professor Prius!

Location: Parts Unknown | Actually, Mikey, ... I spent the morning picking up the custom made "unit glass"
windows I ordered last week for my George Jetson style bathroom renovation. I
then met up with a woman to buy some wonderful Googie light shades for some
as yet undefined project. All this, to make Neil proud, .... living the Forward Look
lifestyle in a larger sense than just the cars. Afterall, it's just a stupid car without
the right windows, cabinets, and light fixtures.
No Prius for this clown. But finishing this bathroom puts me one step closer to
welding on the DeSoto again !

I could of swore I saw you hanging out in a lawn chair at a car show parking lot with your new blinged out, red & white '57 Bel Air clone; just Jonesin' to get your hands on that big trophy to add to your collection. You said you were happy to have won, but wished you would have remembered to bring the little guy hiding his face, the drive-in tray with fake food, the Carls Jr. 57 number on the dash, fuzzy dice and the rest of the accessories to really pull it off well. Oh well, maybe next time.

Location: Parts Unknown | Yeah, ... you got me. Awesome red cars (just like Christine !), trophies, loads
of trite and contrived. Does it get any better ? I should start dating "other men" too ...
Oh yeah, and since I last posted, I cut the roof open and hauled off most of
it, leaving just the rafters and the bottom 2' or so of the roof sheeting. Maybe
tomorrow I'll run the last of the shower and toilet stubs and put down the subfloor ?
Or maybe not. I could just take my new Prius to a Prius show and get a trophy.
Man, that would be so deep and meaningful.
What to do ? I'm so torn ! |
