Location: St.Catharines, ON CANADA | 1960's 318 motor, replace with a new HEI dizzy. Took 12v feed from ignition, truck starts beautiful !! But now I have no coil. So where do you put exciter wire coming from alt?? Green wire comes from Alt to Voltage Reg. But how do you feed V reg?? V reg used to be fed from coil ??? |

Location: Perth Australia | Same 12V feed you had to the reg from the coil will still work.
The 12v feed should have come from the key side of the ballast resistor
The feed that you have put in for the distributor can be tapped off for the reg
Why did you run a new wire anyway? only needed to bypass the ballast resistor and then use the existing coil+ wire

Location: St.Catharines, ON CANADA | I have 12v feed from Ign key to Dizzy, which also has a coil built in. I did not run new wire. My question is, how do I get alt to charge? V reg has no power going to it. |

Location: Perth Australia | Connect to the 12V wire you connected to the dizzy
You can put 2 wires into 1 terminal, the hei should have 2 terminals going into it, 1 power, the other tach, but use a terminal thats big enough to take 2 wires, then crimp it
You say your using the original wire, yes?, so the reg wire should also reach
What car is this though, I am assuming a lot here as a 318 (poly or la) were used in a lot of cars over a lot of years and the ignition system changed a bit over time
Nothing exotic about the hei set up, just they mounted the coil and module in the cap and saved having the coil neg wire leave the dizzy to go to a coil, so the 12V wire going into the dizzy basically goes to the pos post of the coil (if it was mounted externally)
Clear as mud?

Location: St.Catharines, ON CANADA | Thanks guys got it done. put a wire from V reg ign side to the ign key. Had my Alt checked again and the guys were helpful. Told me ground 1 of the 2 FLD on Alt to case. Started charging right away |
