Fellow Forward Lookers,
After my car sits for a few days, when I start it up and move her out of the garage, one of the rear wheels is locked up. If I move forward then reverse, it usually frees it up but when I step on the brake again, it locks up again. Once i get her out on the road, the brake problem goes away after a short while. I'm being told this sounds like a rear axle seal leaking and corrupting the brake shoes...My question to the forum is: How hard of a job is it to replace the axle seals? Never messed with axles before..Its on a 57 New Yorker...Any insight/words of wisdom would be appreciated...thanks..

Until you get the brake drum pulled on that side, you don't know whether you have a shoe loose from its mounting or what. I'd be more inclined on that than an axle seal since it is a directional problem. Pull the drum. Let us know. Axle seals on all cars are very similar. On a Mopar, the trick is first to remove the drum. Been discussed a hundred times.
