Location: Grimshaw Alberta | I just picked up two forward look mopars this summer, one is 1959 custom royal and the other a 1959 Dodge Regent. I'm having trouble with decoding the number on the Regent, it starts with M839, i understand the rest is production number and i also get the M is for 59 but the other three don't make sense according to what I have found online. Thanks for the help! |

(kidding - but they would be nice, especially the Dodge Regent (being a Canadian only model (I think))).

Location: Grimshaw Alberta | That would make sense, I was told it was a v8 car originally, oh and once I get to a computer to reduce the size of my pictures I will post some |

The third digit is for the series, matching the Plymouth series -
3 - Dodge Regent / Plymouth Savoy
5 - Dodge Mayfair / Plymouth Belvedere
6 - Dodge Viscount / Plymouth Fury
7 - Dodge Suburban / Plymouth Suburban
9 - Dodge Sport Suburban / Plymouth Sport Suburban
The Sport Fury was not built in Canada, nor was the Custom Suburban.
The "9" is for the Windsor assembly plant.
There should be a small black tag with the following information -
Model No. ME2-L 4dr Sedan
Body No.
Paint Code
Trim Code
Chrysler of Canada also built the Dodge Kingsway Deluxe 4dr sedan for export - M7591xxxxx, model ME1-M, as well as the Plymouth Belvedere version, MP1-M and the DeSoto Diplomat Deluxe, MF1-M.
The engine number should be stamped on a machined boss on the left side of the block, just below the head. This is, if the engine is a Chryco flathead six.
Is the Custom Royal also a Canadian model?

Location: Grimshaw Alberta | I believe the custom Royal is a Canadian car as well, when I get a chance I will get the numbers off of it and post them. All the information is appreciated as I'm new to these cars. |
