I suckered myself into buying some NOS (or repros ?) twin rear fender aerials for my 56 Custom Royal D-500. I am gathering up radio parts - T & C radio locally, knobs from a FL forum member and now the aerials.

The instructions that came with the aerials mention a 1" hole and the distance from the end of the fender as 16". It is not clear whether that is to the edge of the metal eustation or the center of the hole. Could some one with a 56 Custom Royal or equivalent please confirm the 16" is to ???

Related question: 1" hole, drilled vertically or on an angle?

Example aerials (not my car):
