I was looking at cleaning up some wiring in my dash on the 57 De Soto sedan. There had been some sort of "issue" sometime in its past and a few wires had obviously gotten hot. They had also installed a bypass switch for the A/C. Anyhow long story short I'm trying to replace bad wires, and put things back right. As close as I can anyhow.

My question... does anyone have the proper location for the power antenna switch. Mine was just hanging loose below the dash. I looked around and couldn't find two mounting holes spaced for it. It works and the wiring looks original. Just not mounted properly.

Ideas?

AS far as I know, that isn't an original switch. They used a toggle style switch. The Chryslers had it mounted on the dash, below the transmission push buttons. I'm not sure where the switch may have been mounted on the DeSoto. I looked in the parts manual, and they only list one type of switch...

Here's a few more pictures. I'm fairly certain this is factory. Or someone spent a LOT of trouble making it look so.

The Toggle switch mounted below the Pushbuttons is usually for the Drivers Fender Mirror remote operation..

Looks like the switch from a mid sixties corvette.

So the wiring diagram from the service manual shows a power antenna. Although the diagram calls for Brown-Red-Black and my car is White-Red-Black. No one I've asked including Ed has ever seen one. So who knows? Guess that makes my FireFlite just that much more special. Apparently the proper location for that power antenna switch is wherever I so decide

Well...I'll buy the same switch as you have, and place mine in the same spot you decide to. Since we both will look the same, we'll set the standard for "correct" factory installation.

My '58 New Yorker came with that option. I will take a look tonight and see what I can find out.

Originally, it was a simple toggle switch. The wiring connector shown is definitely not original for a 57/58!

This is the antenna switch in my '58 New Yorker. The toggle switch doesn't look original and the wires have been spliced in at some point. I am not sure if this is the original location for it by the radio, or if it was on the far left side of the dash. I have 2 extra holes over there as well.

I have a '57 Chrysler Canuck Windsor parts car, with power antenna, and it has a toggle switch mounted in the upper small hole, just like in your picture above. So, must be the right spot!

The toggle switch has a flat handle on it, instead of round.

Sounds like we have a consensus. Please post up a pic of your switch when you get a chance.

So, I finally found where I stashed the switch/wiring harness, when I removed it from the car. And I apologize, as my memory was wrong. The toggle switch does have a round handle, not flat as I thought.

That's original. Thanks Brad.

BTW, the toggle is a momentary top and bottom switch and the off is in the middle.

I've got a comprehensive stack of paperwork on this 57 De Soto. Original invoice, original owner's service certificate, etc., etc. Plus all the receipts for tires, batteries, servicing on and on. No mention of the power antenna anywhere. Original? Perhaps not. The part that intrigues me is the wiring and connectors are consistent with all the rest of the factory wiring. The power lead was plugged into the buss on the back of the temp gauge just like the wiring diagram calls for and it has the very same connector as all the rest. If it wasn't installed by the factory or the dealer somebody sure went to a lot of trouble to make it look like it was.

Brad's switch is very similar to the '57 Imperial defroster switch too. Same style, just not momentary.

This 300D with power antenna has the switch in the lower hole on the dash. I don't know what the other switch is for, but it is obviously not OEM.

A couple of options: the wiring may be original, but the switch was replaced at some time, due to failure. Or, it may be a dealer installation of a non-oem kit.

Your rear-mounted antenna doesn't appear to look the same as the front fender-mounted ones Chrysler used. But, maybe Chrysler used two different ones, due to the differences in how they are mounted?

Due to the rarity of this option, information and pictures are hard to come by...
