You are correct they were used the the 354 cu.in hemi engines as far as I know, here's a photo of the one I have for that application
the '56 300 used intake # 1634285
1956 300 1634285 Intake manifold has a few differences 1) the the carb ports are about 1 3/8" dia. 2) the manifold is referred to as a log intake which means that is or was a high rise intake for the day. So with the 57's lower profile hood you would difficulty with the install especially with a 392 higher deck block. Here's a photo included of the 56 300 intake

Unless you really care about that number being there, I would recommend using the Weiand intake. It is exactly the same casting, just with a Weiand logo and different numbers. Those original intakes are excessively heavy. I guess they didn't know how to make a thin wall casting yet. I sold off my originals and never looked back.

I agree with Powerflite unless you want originality an after market aluminium intake is definitely an option and new carbs. The Weiand intake has had some problems with the castings being a little light and experiencing warping because it with some of the small block intakes so you may want to ask around or talk to some someone using them, which is almost every second guy you talk to.
