My wife's 58 New Yorker, seems to have power seats, but nothing happens when touching the buttons, but it may be a later concern, what I understood, there should be two different models ? four and six ways ? Should it be a cover on the seat edge ? The seat even seems to sit high, will the rails be recessed into the floor on this model ?

If it's a stock power seat car, it will have a six-way seat, and there will be recessed channels built into the floor. That switch looks like it is from a GM car, like a Cadillac...

Yes, that switch, and the seat itself doesn't look correct for a '58 New Yorker.
