Location: Sydney, Australia | Does anyone know how to remove the pins in a 58 Plm door lock barrel? I have 2 different keys and 2 different locks. One key is the ignition key but also fits into driver door lock but won't turn. Another key fits into the passenger door but won't turn.. I've removed the locks and inserted keys but still won't turn so nothing is stopping them except being wrong keys.
I've looked up how to rekey door locks but Chrysler differ from all the tutorials of taking apart I could find. I got close with one tutorial showing a silver clip on top and just remove it and pins and springs will come out. When I look at mine they seem to be encased on the top with no clip above the pins..
Here are 2 photos I could find. First one showing my type of lock and then another type with easy access to pins..

Won't he have to pull it apart? I was reading that automotive locksmiths for the classic old key will charge around $250 to make up a key so if I can get it apart I can just rekey the pins.. Surely someone has had one apart.

| I have had one apart. Its tiny springs and tiny brass discs in there of different heights. You have to match the discs to the key which involves some filing for a custom fit. I haven't tried it and don't think I have the patience for it. Its tiny stuff so would involve correct tools. I think you can get a much better price than 250. Another option is to open a cylinder you have a key for and not lose the place of anything inside and just mimic the arrangement for the next cylinder. Obviously you would need the discs and springs to install into an empty cylinder and the possibility of filing some discs down to size. I have read about people doing that on these forums in some older postings. |

Not sure where you are but $250 is outrageous. I had zero keys for my 56 when I got it. I had an ignition key made (from scratch) by a locksmith. (I took the ignition lock to him). It cost $75. Later I had the driver's door lock keyed to the ignition key. That cost $60 at the same shop (I took the door lock to him ).

How did you open it or slide the barrel off? Did it look like the ones in the photo? I don't have any keys that work for the door locks.

Yeah I was quite shocked when I read that.. I actually haven't spoken to anyone for an actual quote so I should. If I can pull the barrel and do it myself, it's money I can save and put somewhere else on the car (tight budget at the moment) Most locks have a clip at the back so the barrel slides out to access the pins or like the setup in this one in the bottom photo. I just can't work out how to open this one.
