Location: Lower Mainland BC | Jerry: You might want to read this post about finding parts that I did awhile back:
http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=66548&...
I just used that process, i.e.:
1. opening the 55-58 Mopar parts pdf
2. Hitting control F and searching on "License Plate"
3. Immediately scanning for rear Suburban brackets
4. Noting the diagram section 8-47-75
5. Searching backwards on 8-47-75 to find the diagram
6. Confirming the location on the diagram
7. Searching on "License Plate" again
8. Noting the Suburban rear licence plate bracket part number, 1605 311
9. Searching ebay, len dawson and collectors auto with 1605311 (no space)
http://www.dpmotorparts.com/inventory_4_a.cfm
http://collectorsautosupply.com/Check%20Your%20Part%20Number.htm
10. Getting a hit on collectors auto (you need to call them to confirm price and availability - not all of their parts on site)
Part# Type Price Quantity Description
1605311 NOS $ Call us to check stock and price!
Good luck

Location: Invermere B.C. Canada - Rocky Mountains | Jerry, is that a picture of your wagon? If so why can you not clean up and straighten the old one?
I might have a old one, if I can find it, yours for the postage.
To be truly honest, the wagon plate location looks a little like a afterthought on Mopars part.
I think that the rear valance under the tailgate is not as high as the one on a sedan so the plate will not fit there
or because of being a wagon and for clearance for the tailgate they put the extra bumper guards with the lic plate lights in them. Just a bit unattractive?
Anyway here is my solution !!!

Seems my message was sent to you before I finished it (or maybe it disappeared into cyberspace.) Glad you have a 56 and hope you can get yours on the road soon, for others to admire and enjoy seeing.
Why don't I use the old license bracket? I'll tell you why: With great frustration I tell you that my body man lost it, and also lost the V8 rear badge and also lost the 'PLYMOUTH ' hood letters. Frustrating. If you have any of these items or even 2 or 3 extra hood letters, please let me know. Since my license bracket is gone, I would be most grateful if you would search for yours and I'll pay you for the mailing cost and something for your time. It is good folks like you, who affirm my belief in the goodness of other people, and who make the old car hobby so special, and make the world a better place.
thank you
sincerely
