Location: So. Cal | Chizler put one in his '56 Plymouth. Hopefully he will chime in. Vintage Air is a good place to start for aftermarket. You really just have to figure out how much space you have available under the dash to fit the evaporator. If you don't have enough, you may have to go with one of those old under-dash units that hang in the middle area. Brackets for the compressor would have to be fabricated for a poly, but you may be able to modify ones made for the LA318 to make them work on the poly. |

Location: Ponder, TX | I'm installing a Vintage Air in my '56 Plymouth and it's an extremely tight fit. If I were to do it again, I's use a much smaller unit. My dash is out, so I have access to everything, but the available space for routing hoses is just too limited.
I also had to make compressor mounting brackets for a Poly and had to swap locations for the alternator and the compressor to get a better fit. That required a custom bracket for the alternator also.
I've installed Vintage Air systems in my '73 Dodge truck and my '64 Valiant convertible, and the '56 is by far the most difficult to make fit. |

I originally had a three-groove power steering pulley that came with the later model Poly. I needed a smaller diameter two-groove setup for my manual steering car, so I used a pulley from an LA engine |

I didn't want to fight the congestion in the dash so I went with a hang-on unit. The "hump" on the lower dash makes evaporator selection more difficult, I went with a generic E-bay unit based on its dimensions.
As to the pulley dilemma, the modern Sanden compressors turn with less resistance so they can often share a single belt with another component.
