I noticed this stamping in the firewall of my '57 New Yorker and wondered what it was for. I looked around and found the same stamping on my '58 Dodge and '60 New Yorker too. Under the dash there is a cutout in the firewall insulation too. What is this cutout used for? I might have thought it was used for a manual shifter, but I think it is too high for that. Could it be used for the clutch? The location is really close to the power booster so it can't take up too much room in the engine bay.

The bracket for the clutch pedal attaches to the left side of the brake pedal and to the firewall at that cutout.
