Interesting. Allpar only lists the V8 Plainsman as a 1958 and none in 1959:

Are you a hobbit like these little folk in their 58 AP1 Plainsman?

...(the only registered Australian made V8 Ap2 Plainsman in Australia)
That's depressing. It may be a Plainsman, but this car is anything but plain. Weird that it has a '57 Saratoga emblem on the hood, '57 New Yorker side trim and '56 Plymouth body features. A pretty neat combo overall.
And the rear quarter window treatment & "C" pillar is very similar to the later Valiant & Lancer wagon style...

| I think Chrysler shipped a bucket of old parts to AU and the Aussies were like "yeah lets put that there!" They did a great job. That thing is awesome. |

How did you find out about being the only V8 one still registered? I remember seeing a white one on Vic plates maybe last year or the year before that..
The V8 grille V looks like the same used on the 58 Plymouth range..

............Allpar only lists the V8 Plainsman as a 1958 and none in 1959:
https://www.allpar.com/world/royal.html
In addition to the Royal four-door sedans, Chrysler marketed two related, more utilitarian models, the "Plainsman Station Wagon," named after the Chrysler "dream wagon" of 1956 and the "Wayfarer," whose name harked back to the lowest-price Dodge line of the late forties. Basically both were Royal sedans forward of the "B"-pillar, with different roof, glass treatment and side panels behind. Neither sported the controversial added fin on the AP2 sedans. The Wayfarer, carrying a capacity of 1/2-ton, came as a six only while the Plainsman came with the V8 as well (192 sixes, but only 32 V-8s).
I'm going to agree with what they said about the accuracy of their table/chart..
I'm guessing that the 32 made are all up.. Probably wasn't large numbers of V8's...

| the white V8 is now in the USA, it got sold & shipped last year, the V on the grill is the same as the 58 Plymouth.
When we registered it there was no profile in the system so we had to create one, QLD Transport checked the system and there was none registered in any of the other states. |

| The Allpar figures were gathered by enthusiasts, we have information now that there were 51 made, there is one that could be restored and one that is a bit past restoring that we know of! there are a few ap1 plainsmans about and a couple of flat 6 ap2 plainsmans.
we have been told that the V8 plainsman was a special order vehicle for Mayor's or other significant social figures of the time.

That's pretty cool. Never must of been one registered in Qld ever. The cars on the databases don't get removed and just stayed even when they were being transferred from paper to electronic.
Done well. Must be very proud. Did you goto COTM?

Location: Echuca | Great to see this rare car restored, I remember trying to scrape up the funds to buy it at COTM around 2002? I am surprised the white one from Geelong has left our shores, I saw it not all that long ago in Melbourne (inside 3 months ago). |
