Why not make them new ? This kind of thing is still made all the time.
Get some decent photos and find the advertising people to make it happen.
For all the really difficult things people ask me to make out of really hard
to work with materials, working with cardboard and string would be a piece
of cake !

I didn't notice the cupholder, I was preoccupied by the kid about to pick his nose for the camera, the stationary exhale of cigarette smoke, and the '55 DeSoto hood ornament! |

'58 was better and '59 much better for panel and trim fitment. |

Location: Branson, MO | A quick comment about the noticed poor fit of the rear door on the '57 DeSoto sedan mentioned above. Back in the day it was common practice for the dealers to "rebuild" these cars once at the dealership from the factory as they were extremely poorly assembled. At my dad's dealership, he would have never had that car on the showroom floor without the door being properly adjusted which would be relatively simple to do. Many things "slipped through the cracks" at the assembly plants back then with the possible exception of the Imperial as there was more attention to detail. Still not the greatest but better than average regarding the Chrysler plants.

Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | The 1957 new model introduction looks as if it was a roaring success at the Frost dealership. I wonder how many cars they sold based on the new low FL bodies for 1957? It makes me feel a bit sad because I know the build quality (especially of the early cars) was not all it should have been and turned off customers due to their propensity of early rust outs. And the recession of 1958 didn't help either.

Location: Lower Mainland BC | I thought the Bill Stock Motors building and cars looked like there was a war on. Apparently they were damaged in a major fire and dynamite explosion that levelled something like 12 blocks in the downtown. Several (13?) deaths and various injuries (25 people?) in various gruesome ways. Yikes!

Yeah, not even Santa. But you have to remember this was before the govenment started regulating everything and people were eating eggs, bacon, saugage, cheese, fried potatoes, bread, biscuits and gravy, etc. and this was just for breakfast! Boy, it was great back then.

I was wondering if there is a time machine that will take back to the good ole days when these cars were brand new , I can go to the dealership order myself a 1958 plymouth belvedere fully loaded with a 318 red and white . I know that is not possible but you can not blame me for trying |

| Bagott Motors in Palouse, WA. I bought this neon sign from them a few years back and hadn't seen these photos he had. Only pics I have seen with my sign hanging on the building. I thought the sign was late 40s early 50s but I was wrong. Clearly prewar from the cars in the photos. I've never seen another one like it. |

| It's unusual to see the Dodge/Plymouth combo. Usually see chrysler plymouth. Also, that height is unique as well. The more common ones are 9-13' tall. That's a super cool sign you got! |

| I'm thinking it was locally made. They had a fire in 1955 and had to rebuild most of the building, I think that is when the sign was taken down. They put up some new Neon after the rebuild I'm guessing in 1956 judging from the cars in the photos. The "BAGOTT" must have also been locally made. Palouse is in Eastern WA close to the Idaho border. Pretty remote place. Pics are of the install and some I took on Thursday. |

Thanks.

Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | I seem to remember that there is (or was) a Doering Motors in suburban Milwaukee. I think they sold Dodge cars mainly. I may have even bought a new 1982 Dodge 400 from them. A nice enough car, but the 2.2 4 cylinder wasn't peppy enough for me and the CV joints went out on the left side at 100,000 miles. Traded it for a Thunderbird with the 302 V-8 (5 liter) The office girl working the mechanical NCR cash register probably explains why the picture was in the Dayton archives. NCR was justly proud of the machines they used to manufacture here in Dayton.

Redmond Motor Sales Desoto Plymouth Redmond, WA
==============================================
This place stood at the SE end of town. I never knew it as anything but
a used car dealership, but a neighbor bought his 56 DeSoto there (he still
owned it in the 70's) and told me all about the place. He said he had intended
to trade the 56 in on a new 61 DeSoto, but when he went in to do so, was
told the brand had been discontinued and they could get no more, so rather
than change brands, he kept his 56.
I would really like to see a photo of that place as a DeSoto dealership.

Location: Parts Unknown | Thanks ! Utterly amazing. Hardly recognizable to my 1960's-70's
time there. The larger photo gives it away as being where the old
Avondale Road peeled off at the odd angle to the highway to Fall City,
which in turn, helps interpret what I am seeing with the camera facing
the other direction. So much had changed by 1970 ! Today, a person
could not find it at all. When Microsoft came to town, the whole place
was torn up and transformed into a netherworld of boutiques and strip
malls for the Microwives to spend their trophy money at.
Odd, the two identical Chrysler sedans in the photo.

The building is still there but it looks like things have changed. In July 2015, it seems to be a closed Chrysler Jeep Dealership. By July 2018 it was Providore Fine Foods (and some other shops).
"On Feb. 10 (2016), the gourmet food market will launch as the centerpiece tenant at Providore Fine Foods, Portland's European-inspired response to Seattle's Melrose Market, found in the historic, 5,000-square-foot De Soto Building on Northeast 24th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard"

Someone mentioned that Dodge - Plymouth dealers were not common (or something like that).
Prior to the introduction of the 1960 models, Dodge-Plymouth was the largest group of Chrysler Corporation dealers. In 1930 Chrysler Corp. added Plymouth to all Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler dealers. Prior to that most Plymouth dealers were combined with Chrysler while Dodge and DeSoto were on their own. With the depression and low sales, the addition of Plymouth helped dealers keep afloat and helped Plymouth become #3 in US sales.
Anyway, with Dodge dealers handling the new Dart for 1960, Dodge dealers generally dropped the Plymouth, and thus became dealers of Dodge cars and trucks.
With the DeSoto being dropped early in the 1961 model year, Plymouth-DeSoto dealers became Plymouth-Chrysler dealers. Apparently there was some house cleaning at the time with dealers losing their dealerships. With Chrysler Corp's poor sales during 1961-62 I can see why there would be some pruning. By the 1963 model year, the dealerships, and divisions, were settled as Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth. Imperials were handled by the bigger Chrysler dealers.
This was only in the U.S. and not in Canada.

You must be referring to the flex hose on the radiator of that DeSoto?. You would think that they had the correct parts to put on it at that time. But that hose may have been installed by the owner for some reason. |

That is a Mopar genuine flexible hose replacement, in a virtually new car. Do to pictures like this, it is hard to believe, that the same factory hose will last 60 years in another car as many claim.
If you could travel to 1958 and visit a Chrysler dealer, these hoses is what they have for sale at the counter.

I just wonder how secret the second link is Dave?!
Queen's Chronicle Newspaper article:
" James F. Waters was an early West Coast automobile dealer in San Francisco who decided to expand his operations and enter the New York City marketplace. In 1935, he started a business in Manhattan, with seven-passenger DeSoto automobiles converted into taxicabs complete with the Chrysler Corp. warranty.
The city passed regulations in 1929 dictating any vehicle used for livery or taxi cab service must be able to carry five passengers in the rear and jump seats. Only Checker, DeSoto and Packard manufactured vehicles that size to meet these requirements.
On June 1, 1940, Waters leased an entire block in Long Island City at 34th Street and 47th Avenue for the DeSoto taxicab operation. All across the city, people saw the vehicles, which had a retractable roof with a molded globe that read DeSoto Sky View.
In 1953, the DeSoto Retailer magazine bragged that seven out of 10 cabs in the city belonged to the company. The vehicles each had an 18-foot-long, eight-passenger body with a six-cylinder engine, manual transmission and 139.5-inch wheelbase.
The end came fast, shortly after Mayor Wagner came into office and the city outlawed the widely used, long wheelbase and set a new maximum of only 120 inches. Ford and Chevrolet were now allowed to enter New York City’s lucrative marketplace.
In 1955 the Waters cabs ended their reign and his Long Island City operation closed. It quickly vanished and the city soon saw Ford, Plymouth and Chevy cabs everywhere."

Location: Vancouver, BC | Two other restrictions on the New York cabs of that era -
Trunk was sealed. Some writers have said that was due to restrictions on alcohol during prohibition.
The front seat had just a seat for the driver, with a platform where the front passengers would have been. The platform was for the luggage, etc. that normally would have gone in the trunk.
Chrysler had finalized work on a LWB 1955 DeSoto cab - body was to be shared with the Crown Imperial, as in past years. The Engineering people even declared the first serial number for the 1955 DeSoto S22 Taxi. The 1954 DeSoto Taxi S20, 139½" wheelbase, saw production of 2,005 units.
But the announcement from New York City to cancel the LWB cabs caused Chrysler and Checker to end production. Checker closed their plant for almost two years as they worked on developing a new cab on a 120" wheelbase, which was ready to go in 1956. And lasted to the end of production in 1981. Packard abandoned the LWB taxi field in 1948. GM was involved briefly in the late 1930's by taking a Chevrolet sedan and extending the body. It was sold as the General Cab.
DeSoto would go back to the taxi business in January, 1957, with the introduction of the DeSoto Firesweep cab with a Dodge Coronet flathead six in the Firesweep body. With the introduction of the DeSoto Firesweep taxi, the engine serial number prefix changed from D72- to KDS6-. A total of 139 6 cylinder taxis were built for 1957. DeSoto announced the taxi based on a 6 cylinder Firesweep in 1958 and 1959, but no production numbers are known.

Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | George Byers and Sons is still doing business in Columbus. They no longer sell Plymouths or De Sotos, but they sell Chrysler, Dodge, RAM trucks, and Jeeps. They also sell a wide range of world cars as well, such as VW, Porche, Jaguar, Mazda, Kia, etc. During the 60s and 70s they had a lock on the fleet of taxicabs that worked out of Columbus. United Transportation, a firm that I worked for when I was in college, had fleets of 1968 Plymouth Fury I and 1972 Plymouth Fury I cabs which they had contracted with George Byers to provide.

In 1961 this dealer became Pacific Chrysler and in 1963 became Ensign Chrysler Plymouth.
Several years ago it became Harris Victoria Dodge Chrysler Jeep. (bottom photo). It's now slated to be torn down for redevelopment.

Location: Ramona, CA | My 300F came from Roy Burnett Motors in Portland, Oregon. The building is still there as the headquarters for Pendleton Woolen Mills. My 1960 New Yorker Town & Country came from Max Barish Inc. at 4th and La Brea in Los Angeles. That building is gone and I couldn't find much info on the dealership.

Carolyn: I real quick look turned up:
https://desoto.org/community/discussion/1955-desoto-fireflite-red-an...
Hub Motor certainly advertised the 1955 Desoto a lot:
Looks like they were at 901 Avenue H in Lubbock. I think Avenue H got renamed to Buddy (all of my love, all of my kisses) Holly Avenue. Here is what 901 looks like now:

Location: Southwest VA | Here's a couple items from my hometown Forwardlook dealer, Bastian Motors, which burned down in 1961 and did not reopen. The dark circles showing through the Desoto key chain is from someone pressing a car's cigarette lighter to the back of it, melting the plastic. I think it's cool that the key chain (from 1952-53) mimics the shape of a hemi combustion chamber.

Anyone notice the Art Frost underhood photo (page 1), showing a 57 Flite w/o hood insulation and appearing to have vacuum windshield washers? In contrast,
the page 2 photo of AC Elkins shows a 58 Flite with hood insulation and a foot washer pump.
Received the FCA build cards for my 57's. The Flite came from #89041 Polk dealership in Alexandria Va. The Dome came from #36947 Bob Bauer in San Diego Calif.
Great service. |

I was thinking the key-ring was from 1952, since that's the year of the "160 HP" Firedome (that's stamped on the key-ring). In 1955, wasn't the Firedome rated at 185 HP?

That ad must be celebrating a 33rd anniversary of Hub Motors because DeSoto didn't come into being until late 1928, and Chrysler in 1925. Your bell shaped key-ring may be celebrating some other anniversary.

That card of J. B. Dowd with the Jess Hunter Motor Company in Pueblo, Colorado, "Your Plymouth Dealer," is interesting. I grew up in Pueblo and here are a few tidbits:
- While I never knew Mr. Dowd, the Hunter clan was a dominant family in the automobile business in the area for years.
- The card dates back to the early 1950s as the T/P No. is still the 4-digit type used before the arrival of dial phones which certainly dates me (anyone else remember, "Number, Please?" -- mine was 2505J).
- By the time of the Forward Look, Jess Hunter had become the Ford dealer, but was still at the address on the card.
- His brother John took over the Imperial-Chrysler-Plymouth franchise after Jess left for Ford and moved it south about four blocks to 7th and Santa Fe.
- I bought my first '60 Fury from the store there at 7th and Santa Fe (and traded it for my first '65 Sport Fury there).
In those days, manufacturers were more controlling about who sold their cars and often restricted their dealers from marketing other brands. But by subterfuge, they became family businesses and by then Jess had Ford, his brother John had Chrysler-Plymouth, and a third had Lincoln-Mercury while a brother-in-law, Lloyd McKee had the biggest Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in New Mexico.
Again, it is interesting.

Looks like Bob Bauer was at 3266 El Cajon Blvd. in San Diego at the time. Right down the street from my old house. El Cajon Blvd was a big car dealer street in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1966 they moved to the Lemon Grove area as a Plymouth dealer.

Location: Pieksamaki, Finland, Europe | Answering to myself. So far I have learnt that Seattle Automobile Co was founded in early 1900's and it's founder was the guy who sold the very first car in Seattle in 1903. It was a Franklin dealer, then later a Packard dealer and in the 50s and 60s Chrysler-Imperial-Plymouth Dealer. Latest mention I have found online has been attached postcard from 1962.

Location: Pieksamaki, Finland, Europe | Yet more digging on "Seattle Automobile Co" resulted that dealership changed owners in 1963 and became "Goodfellow Chrysler-Plymouth Inc" and in the 1970's the company switched to other brand and became "Goodfellow Ford Inc".

Location: Vancouver, BC | There were some Plymouth only dealers - as well as Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler. But not Imperial - at least not in 1957-58.
On January 1, 1957, Plymouth had a total of 8,752 franchises. That figure included duals, while 77 were Plymouth only. One year later Plymouth had a total of 7,695 franchises, including duals, with 195 Plymouth only.

Interesting - Dad was a DeSoto-Plymouth dealer from 1946 till 1961 when Chrysler replaced the DeSoto at his dealership. In
1968 he added Dodge and Dodge Trucks to the line-up and continued to 1981 when it closed.
I guess I never paid attention to there being Plymouth dealers only as all I can remember was the dual dealership concept.

I was just wondering if anyone happens to know of the White Plymouth Centre in Renton Washington?
This is the information listed on my Owner's Service Certificate along with Code Number: 61411.
It was delivered in November 1960. Sadly over the years I've never been able to find anything about this dealership.
Thanks so much |

I’d agree with that. I like the fins on the 61 Imperial. Chrysler was a step backwards after the boomerang tailights of the 1960’s. Everything about the 60 Chrysler’s and DeSotos were better, and the same applies comparing the 60 Dodges and Plymouth’s to the 61’s. The Plymouth didn’t even have fins anymore! Truly the end of an era. Things would never be the same ever again.
How anyone in the styling dept could look at the 61 Chrysler taillights and think those were better than the 60’s is beyond me. Totally pointless change. |

On my build card, the dealer number is listed as 56440 and that's what I used to dig up a list of active Chrysler dealerships (probably compiled after 2008 when many went under) here. https://www.autonews.com/assets/pdf/Chryslerdealersremain.pdf
This list may give you more information that you can use to fill out anything missing in your list.

My 300F came from Roy Burnett Motors in Portland, you have it listed as Roy Barnett but Burnett is the correct spelling. The region code is 72. They switched from Pontiac/Oakland to DeSoto in 1929.
I have written up the history of the dealership on my site at - https://300f.com/8403150442_burnett.htm
My '60 New Yorker Town & Country was sold new at Max Barrish Inc. at 4th and LaBrea in Los Angeles.
A friend's '60 New Yorker Town & Country was sold new at Main Street Motor Sales, Crookston, MN, Region 53, dealer code 53480
He also has a '60 300F and was a promotional car so not sold at a dealer. Region 15, Dealer code 82040. I know of another 300F promotional car that has the same codes.
I can probably come up with more.

That's a 1934 Imperial with the 1935 style hood that Chrysler offered to owners who wanted to upgrade the looks of their 1934 cars. |

And another interesting page: https://pressbooks.ulib.csuohio.edu/evolution-of-local-dealerships/c...
a few quotes:
-" than in December 1955 when De Soto unveiled its latest effort. Dubbed “Quality Dealer Program,” this new repair program aimed at expanding its current customer-base, while increasing the profit ratios for its nearly 3,000 dealers" (only De Soto dealers)
- "in April 1957 when they signed a new agreement pertaining to both franchise renewals and new car sales quotas. It affected nearly 9,000 franchises." (all dealers)
-"Although the decade of the 1960s experienced a marked decline in the number of domestic automobile manufacturers that negative business trend had no effect on the Chrysler Corporation as its number of it domestic franchises reached 6,200."
so we're only looking for 7,000 codes to complete |

Location: Ponder, TX | The man squatting on the left in the last '56 Dodge photo is IMCA stock car racing champion Ernie Derr, from Keokuk, Iowa. When I worked at a Mopar dealership in Minot, ND, our Dodge store sponsored him every year at the North Dakota State Fair dirt track race. The Chrysler-Plymouth side sponsored another IMCA champion, Ramo Stott in his Plymouth. Really makes me feel old!
The photo is of our dealership's old building. They had moved to a new building a couple blocks away when I worked there. Something sort of unique about the old building is that the newer used cars were in a heated parking garage on the second level. That was where I bought my '53 Plymouth in the winter of 1958. With temps below zero, it was nice shopping inside!

Corwin-Churchill, Chrysler Plymouth, 414-418 North Pacific, Fargo, North Dakota.
The old building is gone (damaged by fire in November 2003- might have been arson) - but there there is still a Corwin Chrysler (-Dodge) in Fargo.

The last image has been reused by some current eBay Mopar Parts sellers (I've seen it before)

RDP and 56D500boy:
My 60 Adventurer build card shows region 72 (Portland, OR) and dealer number 92723. It was order number 001 on 9/22/59. I don't know anything about that dealer. Do either of you have information that might identify the dealer? My daughter and sister both live in Portland and I'll be going to visit on April 15th. It would be fun to see if the dealer is still there. Thanks. Great thread! |

Location: PL / EU | Sorry Doug, I saw your question in the "Dealer codes" thread. Unfortunately, I do not know this dealer number.
It's probably a car bank or other corporate number.
I know about twenty 9xxxx numbers, almost all of them is corporate numbers. However, two of them are dealer numbers.
Edit:
59 SportSub - 2021-01-29 5:40 PM
Billohio - 2014-11-16 6:27 PM
Thought I would add what was found on my 300g.
81101- pool, chrysler central operations- Detroit. 341 mass. Ave. highland park
Very interesting. My '59 Firedome Sportsman 4 dr was sold at Ben Hurley in Seaford, Delaware.
Dealer #: 81101
Region: 15
Similar situation I think. Dealer picked up car from a sales bank, not by the factory order.
Therefore, the code of the sales bank or other corporate institution appears on the IBM card.
However, the sales invoice, warranty card is issued by the seller. So, the dealer name appears in conjunction with the corporate code.
Probably all 8xxxx and 9xxxx codes are corporate codes.
I have to correct it in my table.

Location: Fort Collins, Colorado | RDP: is it possible then that my Adventurer never got to Portland, but went through some type of corporate ordering/transfer and ended up in Great Bend, Kansas (Marmie Motors) where it was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Reid (who I believe were the original owners) and where I bought it in 2012? Marmie Motors is still there but under a different name I believe. They have no records that go back that far.

Maybe your car was a show car or something like that later sold through Marmie Motors? It was certainly not ordered by Marmie Motors. |

It was 208 Main St. in 1961. But that is a house today.

You're probably right. Google maps had taken me to Marlborough. The owner of the dealer was named Bernard Schuster. The dealership was not mentioned in his obit but he had a trucking company in Colchester until 1983.

Not exclusively 1950's (but mostly). Not exclusively Mopar (but there are lots (pun not intended, but appropriate ). I enjoyed the 19 minutes or so it took to watch it.

I only see ads for Lagrew Motors in 1959 and 1960 papers. In 1958 it was Schmidlapp Motor Car Co., DeSoto Plymouth, they also dealt in imports. They appear to be the first ones there. In 1961 the dealer at that address is Glover Motor Co. Then in 1963 it's WM. Lehman. Then in 1965 it's Boat Discount Center. Then in 1967 it's Pete Thorne's Volkswagen City aka Pete Thorne Auto Brokers. In 1969 it changes again, now John Gravel's Autorama. In 1970 it's Jeep of Pompano. Seems to be a cursed location.
The building is still there and is a used car lot. The right wing off the showroom is gone though.

guessing after cars standing in front of the building:

I looked up W.J. Render & Son and they show up from 1955-1957 as a DeSoto Plymouth dealer at 216 S. Federal Hwy in Pompano Beach. In 1958, they are selling Fiats as well. Looks like they are the ones that built that new building but soon after sold it to Schmidlapp even though their ads show the address to be 1001 S. Federal Hwy.

If you go to The Seattle Times archives, you can see ads for that dealership. I don't have a subscription to it so I can only see the previews.

I have the original Seattle Auto frame and I did a repro myself with original style of lettering so it fits better in the restored car.
Here is a picture of Seattle Automobile Co. Inc. from 1953 I guess. Taken from "Seattle car dealers of the past" -group in Facebook.

Location: Whitewater, Ca | I recently bought an exact copy of my very first car; a 1966 Barracuda. In the back of the owners manual is the transfer of ownership form. It was a Chrysler company car for 8 months
until it was sold at Young Motors, located in the 700 block of Fredericksburg, Virginia in Jan. of 1967. The region was 35, and the dealer number was 8405. I did a quick look and didn't see this info in the thread. |

I believe that Young Motors was on the 700 block of William Street in Fredericksburg Virginia:
I'm adding your information to the Dealer Code thread:

| Yes, Tekoa WA. They closed in 1980. This was their "yearbook" photo in 1956. Dealers would put ads in the local High School Yearbooks to try and get Grads to buy a new car. I have that "TEKOA MOTORS" sign in my shop. |

Location: PL / EU | Guys , in attachment updated dealership list. If you are looking for a dealer number, you can find it here.
Over 2200 individual numbers, you can sort it alphabetically or by numbers. This list includes the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
Pay attention the note in the upper right corner. Also on the right you will find region number list. Have fun.

The xls version worked. Thanks.
I found the dealership to which my 56 Dodge was delivered.
However, I did not find the Storm Lake, IA dealer that George B's 56 Dodge was delivered. I found another Storm Lake dealer but not George's car's.
I did not find the dealership that Tim Dupont's 56 Dodge D500-1 was delivered to.
So hit and miss.

Location: North Germany | I have now received my build card from Danielle, very interesting. My NY was shipped to Stephen Butcher Hazelton PA ( No. 56209 ) . Is also in the list of RDP ). I wonder if anyone has any contemporary pictures of the dealer ?
It is so nice to see how the dealers still took their job so seriously. How the dealers and the new owners were so proud of their new family member.
Today you don't want something like that at all. Preferably all inclusive leasing , after 2 years throw away and the next soulless consumption car .

Older vehicles definitely needed lubrication more often than our Forward Look cars. It would have been interested if they had included what vehicle needed this reminder. Of course, they may have still sent this to owners with cars that didn't need that frequent lubrication just to drive some extra business. |

Liccardi Motors, 425 Park Ave, Plainfield NJ Thank you RDP, for posting that. My dad, John J. Forbes Sr., worked at the Leo Adler dealership at 13800 W. 7-Mile Rd, in Detroit. I'm not sure of the exact years he was there, but I do have some idea...
One day at lunchtime, he came home* in a new '56 Desoto off the lot, and another salesman picked him up afterwards to collect a 3rd car further west out 7-Mile. They left the new Desoto parked my dad brought home in the driveway, beneath the kitchen window. My Mother, wanting to clean up the kitchen and get the dishes washed knew that I'd be quiet, content and entertained if she put me in the car for a few minutes (only 2-yrs old, but I had straight 40w oil in my veins, and still do). My Mom, she was a Good Mom, periodically looking out the window over the sink, seeing me playing with the steering wheel and all the knobs could tell I was happy. Next thing she knows is that I'm screaming, and she can't see me through the smoke filling up the interior! The wiring harness has shorted and going up in smoke. She runs to get me out of the car then calls the fire dept__they're pretty close__incident scene is handled and they're rolling up hoses as my dad and salesman #2 drive past on 7-Mile, noticing the fire trucks...
They make the block, knowing exactly what happened (not about me__this was before cellphones) because they'd already had a few cars on the lot go up in smoke. Nobody in or even near those cars, so it wasn't about me touching the buttons, switches and knobs! I guess it was a thing(?).
And I know my dad still worked at Leo Adler's when he took delivery__for himself__of the first 1960 Valiant that came in, a light blue/blue V200, and still there by Thanksgiving 1959, because we went downtown to see the annual parade in a brand new '60 model Plymouth demonstrator__and I threw up on the floor in the backseat.
I really did like Desotos more (my Mom thinks it was my older brothers that taught me how to say "desoto" BEFORE I could say "daddy") and can remember the most expensive Desoto they sold in '58, a black Adventurer with gold trim, spending time with it in the showroom while my dad "babysat" me until my brother could come and get me on his bycycle.
But HEY, this is my First Post on here (I just registered an hour ago) so I apologize for being so long-winded, and if possible, I'm going to post a picture of a car I spotted while my wife & I were out today__a 1957 Desot service car; a freaking sixty-seven (67) year old Desoto Ambulance! How cool is that?!?!
Pictures might work, fingers crossed!
Again, sorry about the long post, but, car guys, am I right ;)
One last thing, now that I know about this forum, I'll try to make time to go through some of the old family photo albumss, as I think there were quite a few with cars that the group here could find interesting.
* We lived a few miles further west, 5 houses off 7-Mile, near Evergreen rd

Those cloth covered wires were never as good as the newer vinyl plastic covered wires. Every one of the '55-'56 cars needs a new wiring harness installed into them now. |
