Does anyone know if I can put rack and pinion steering in my 1956 Dodge Royal Lancer? |

Bolt in kit, I don't think so, but a mustang 2 frontend grafted into the chassis will give you rack and pinion as well as coil spring front suspension (read air bags) and easy disc brakes.
It will also give you a much lighter wallet and plenty of distain from the purists
It really depends on why you want it, modding the car, go for it, just want power steering, chase up the factory parts, would be cheaper and easier

Another popular option is the 2003-up Crown Vic/Grand Marquis crossmember/suspension clip. Disc brakes, coil over struts, rack and pinion, plus newer parts availability.
It's something I'm considering myself . . .

Gregg, not on the somewhat narrow track of the early forward look cars, the track / tread on the CV is too wide. The "flavor of the week" is the front frame portion from a Dakota. At the sweet spot, the frames are identical, track is close.
Lots of info on both on the net. NOT that I would ever consider doing this, NEVER.
Not mine:

Location: NorCal | The GM Cavalier rack is popular for swaps, it's rear-mounted and the center-steer design eliminates a lot of the bump steer that's common in R&P swaps. If you don't have fabrication skills, forget it.

That's interesting Ray - I never would have thought of that (until I got my tape measure out of course). I've seen the CV?GM suspension in several cars at shows - I thought one of them was a FL but I might be wrong (pretty likely).
