Have you ever noticed that some 1961 Dodge Darts have indented slots all across the top grille wide chrome band, and others have only two, and sometimes only one indented slot? Does anyone know why they are not all done the same way?

I've noticed this...but from what I gather all 1961 Dodges have the grille with the slots across the top and bottom. The 1962 Dodge 880 only has some of the slots that are unpainted.
My guess is these grilles got interchanged over the years since they will bolt right in. Dealers also may have used '62 Dodge 880 grilles to fix damaged '61 Dodge grilles.

The 1961 Dodge grille was part number 1904 331 while the 1962 880 grille was 2417 180.
The 1962 880 grille is not in my 1962 Chryco parts list (early edition) but my 1961 edition was well used and someone did some parts updating, crossing out old numbers and entering new numbers. And the 1961 Dodge grille is one - the 1904 331 is crossed out and replaced by 2417 180. So anyone ordering a grille for a 1961 Dodge after the 880 grille went into production at that dealer would have received a 1962 880 grille.
