I think a lot of you have seen this car before. It's been listed for a way overpriced $45,000 on Craigslist for the past year or so. I always wondered how the seller arrived at that asking price.

In any case, they seem to have come to some realization that they were way out of the ballpark. I'm not sure it's work $19,000 either, but at least it's a lot closer.

I applied for this car as soon as I saw the add an year or so ago, because this is one of my favorite models especially as a 4 door htp. I sent the seller an add for another car that was almost a sibling of this one, but in slightly better condition. Its asking price was $14500. The lady said that my comparison is not accurate and that the price of her car is much closer to $40000 than $14000, so I don't have to bother to offer similar prices anymore.
Now with a $19000 price tag she really is much closer to the real value of the car.
I am going to apply for the car again.
What do you guys think that this car worth, keeping in mind it has not been driven for so many years?
Regards

Hmm.....
I would think for that price, the car should be in perfect running order and detailed very well, though not a perfect car. It should be ready to drive without worry for that price. "All it needs is a battery"????....yeah, right. If it has been setting outside for a while as these photos suggest....watch out! Inspect in person. Oh,...and that "salvage title".

If I was in love with '59 Coronet 4drs, it might be a good one to have being a hardtop, very complete and original, and in a somewhat presentable condition for being unrestored.

But the chrome looks pitted and the back bumper is even rusty. The car itself doesn't seem to be rusty. It will need all the normal maintenance stuff. You can see that the suspension bushings are shot. The car has just a few options. The colors are good.

Overall, I would say it is realistically worth about half of the new asking price ($8-10k). You don't see them come up very often though, so if you like it, get it!

*edit - just saw the Salvage Title. I'd want a conversation to understand why it has one. And then I'd deduct from my offer for it, probably 25%*

On one of the pictures it is visible that the left part of the front bumper is very rusty. And this salvage title is an issue indeed. I wonder whether it will be possible to be registered at all in my country. As 57burb said 8-10 grands minus about 25% for the salvage title - so about 6 to 8000 usd is my opinion as well and it is something I can afford.
I wonder what our Swedish members think. They are the ones that are ready to pay most for these cars.

Update:By the way the craigslist link for contact does not work.
I sent an e mail to the seller, the one she used to send me some pictures of the car last year, but it was returned as undeliverable.

So actually there is no way to get in touch with the seller.

With respect to the salvage title, NY did not title cars until the early 70s.

It was said that the car had a MT Vernon NY history, so the car may have been in NY for a long time

The seller may lost the registration and may have found another way to prove ownership

Perhaps some of our NY people can elaborate
