Location: McComb, Mississippi | A few months ago, I changed out all of the seals in my Imperials rear axle. It's not a limited slip type. At the time, I filled it up with dino gear oil. A friend just gave me a couple of bottles of GL-5 75w90 synthetic gear oil. I'm wanting to confirm that this oil is safe to use in the rear axle. I think it should be fine, but wanted to ask some of the experts. Thanks |

Location: McComb, Mississippi | Thanks guys. I siphoned all of the old gear oil out(only a few months old), It took a few hours with the little gravity pump. The oil looked like it was 20 years old. I guess because it helped flush out the OLD gear oil. Anyways, I filled it up with two quarts of the synthetic stuff. While I was at it I also cleaned the breather. It seems like I read somewhere on here that you can replace the breather cap with a piece of oil resistant hose and a fuel filter. I may try that. Haven't got to drive the car yet since I changed up the gear oil as I'm waiting on my front disc brake conversion kit to arrive. |

Yes, I wrote/did that. Basically only because if you drive fast the OE vent likes to puke oil, but that mod is not needed in an Imperial. |
