Removing a 57 Dodge engine and transmission

I have an engine hoist that will handle both but as long and bulky as the torque flite looks I am worried about it clearing the firewall heater unit coming out. Its a 325 poly. But separating them is pretty tough with the adapter plate set up it has, I cant get to all the bolts. Any recommendations? Cal I would remove the iron part of the trans from the bellhousing. Then remove the motor & bellhousing as one unit. That would be much easier to do in the end and won't risk smacking into stuff. I'm used to one piece Torqueflites.
