Not sure why, but my iPad now shrinks the FL forum and I have to zoom in on screen to get to usual size.

Any ideas why? This just started.

That's because of the, mildy said, "unthoughtful" placement of an idiotic wide ad-banner at the bottom of every page.

There are ways to block this kinda stuff, but it's usually a bit cumbersome.
IMO,it would be forumuser-friendly to excempt "logged-in" users from showing advertising at all.

I have the same problem, it's starting to give me vertigo. Also something new is that each section is like a sub forum where I have to click on show all categories to see the full page?

Practically, an Ipad is a mobilephone in structure, so it will not show any site "as meant to" - some sites have apps for this, which makes things even worse according to me.

Just about any modern forumsoftware these days is 'Responsive', which simply means the software senses on what sort of device it is used and changes the forumlayout accordingly to maintain readability and usability.

This message board is written in something called Microsoft Classic ASP, which has been around since the 1990s. It's from a time when cell phones, as we know them today, didn't exist. So the site is not designed to be 'responsive' to the device you are viewing it on.

IMHO, the site works fine, even though posting pictures is a PITA. I wouldn't want to loose all the important, historical, seachable information we've accumulated here over the last 18 years, in the interest of making the site more viewable on a cell phone or tablet by porting it to more modern forum software (if that even exists).

The issue is that the Safary browser on iPads and iPhone doesn't understand the fixed box size with a slidable content. It always expands the content to the size the banner has. It's the ebay advertisement banner that causes the problem plus the inability of the Safary browser.

Happy Restoring!

Dieter

Well, the browser understands it all too well. The problem is the fixed width in the ad-banner that is placed without consideration for mobile devices;

"<table style="width: 744px" cellpadding="0" align="center" class="style2">"

Yep, same problem.. Think it worked normally before and just started a month or so ago. I have been primarily using the IPad in my garage since it uses way less data than my laptop, very portable, and is comparatively immune to dust in the shop. Used to come here frequently, but not so much anymore as every page you go to shrinks to a fraction of the size and it's too annoying to keep correcting that on every darn page. So, I go to other sites instead. Wastes way too much time using it this way.

The site worked fine before on IPad, so have my doubts about it being the device fault. Also have loaded other browsers than Safari, but same thing happens. Maybe because browsers all run thru Safari, even if it isn't apparent to the user. Or, so I have read anyway..

Noticed I had 3 messages unopened that were sent to me in late 2017 and 2018 and it will not let me even read the messages now. Just cycles back to the message listing and shrinks it again, although I am logged in as would be expected.

I would think this has to have cut down on site traffic, so this glitch can't be doing much for advertisers placing ads on it either. I used to enjoy this site, but won't be logging in very often in the future, life is too short...

Using the Safari browser to search for "Cavalier Power Rack Images" you also get an image array line that exceeds browser page width and you have to scroll to the right to see the whole line.

If the fault was just the Safari browser alone, then the resulting search page should shrink other lines in that type of varying-width search result - just like the forum pages do to allow that longest line(s) per page to display.

When the pages are simply defined in width by the widest line present and all other characters/lines shrunk to allow that longest search result line (or horizontal lineup) to fully display on one page, one would expect this result from 744 character lines, when the typical width is not wider than 132 characters.

But, it doesn't display like that on those pages off the forum website, while still on the Safari browser does it? It does just the reverse.

It instead limits viewable too-long scroll line items on the offending line (or lines) instead, and the page width remains standard 132 character width (and viewable).

So as mentioned by other posters previously, it is the ad banner (EBay?) being allowed to dictate page width and shrink everything else that is the issue apparently.

Would think that someone with some basic programming expertise could change that line length conditional statement for the forum pages to do the same thing, without re-writing the whole web site.

I am on other forums with generally older users as here, with far less registered users than this site has. They manage to still make it work, even though some of those sites were also written many years ago.. End of rant..

Notice also that if using your IPad and you press the items listed at page top as "Search", "Statistics", "EBay" and "Calendar" that those pages also have the EBay banner listing and it scrolls off to the right, just as I described previously.

So, it manages that very same exact banner ad on this site while on the Safari browser on each of those pages, without shrinking the rest of the page. If it can be made to work in some pages of the site, it can certainly be made to work on the other pages...
