| This 59 Coronet "resto mod" will be interesting to see what it goes for. Alot of no reserve cars are GOING to take a beating... stock markets down 500-600 points... Day 1 was a bunch of "sketchy" mercedes/bmw/jags and junk that went for almost nothing... Well 90% junk, every other car was a middle eastern used car salesman guy ditching his 80s/90s mercedes inventory before the end of the year... https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0119-357455/1959-dodge-coronet-resto-mod/

| Nothing for me this year. Although I wouldn't mind that 55 imperial convertible, but the reserve will be through the roof |

The "Dealer installed 413/410 HP short ram engine" is a rather interesting tidbit. I know that the 413 was indeed a "dealer installed" option in 1961, but I suspect the dealer may not have been a authorized MoPar guy. The short long rams were as rare as the proverbial hen's teeth in 1961. The steering column looks as though it never had the '61's "3-on-the-tree" though the push-button blank-out is well done even if the 4-speed is an obvious anachronism. I think the SonoRamic Commando badge is properly positioned although I never personally encountered a wagon that had that engine in stock form. And, of course, the ram tubes and valve covers should be gold. All in all, the car looks suspiciously like a '61 SW I have encountered here in Colorado a number of times at Bandimere Speedway in Denver. The first time I took my '60 ram Plymouth there to "MOPARs on Thunder Mountain" (in 2004), I met a couple of brothers who were very interested in my car and we discussed its engine extensively. A few years later, they showed up with a blue 2-dr wagon with a 4-speed ram 413 that they had built and which they dragged a number of times, but I don't know with what results. We talked then and several times thereafter, especially about the dealer installed aspect. I saw the car last about three-four years ago and it was for sale. Perhaps "Lancer Mike" (Mike Sutherland) may know more about it.
This being said, it is very nicely done and I wouldn't mind owning it myself, if it weren't a station wagon. Since I was a product of those days, I have an adversion to wagons since we hot rodders considered them old men's cars and grocery getters and definitely "not cool." Still, I'd like to know more about it.

| 82.5k for the 57 Fury... prices are going up... And the front emblem was rattle canned Still a super clean car. Only other higher car today was a 1965 finished Shelby 427 cobra(the ones they found unfinished and later Shebly finished) at 104k https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0119-355831/1957-plymouth-fury/

Location: Ocala, Florida | The Fury has the taillight trim on backwards. The trunk pan and seat supports were welded in nicely but weren’t the correct pattern, in addition to the printed grille and badge. The ‘59 Spectator has had a repaint as there is a little bit of overspray in some places and a little bit of filler in the fenders. |

Is this what it is supposed to be like?
Yes, exactly. The worst part about it is there are existing holes for the trim pieces and there is a hole at the very bottom of those pieces in particular! It's not like you can just miss that and install those pieces incorrectly, it doesn't work that way. I just can't get there to what the body person did to where it actually makes sense. It seems intentional.. It's a nice car otherwise but it would suck to spend that kind of money and have to un-do that error, fill holes, add holes, and repaint as well as possibly running into what other potential nightmares live beneath that paint. It's just so unnecessary.. Unfortunately the grille does seem spray painted and not anodized too. For that type of money the car really should have been right.. In my opinion, of course. |

Location: CA | I hadn't looked at the car via the mecum link until just now.. there are actually a LOT of nit-picky problems with this car. It's a nice car but I definitely think for the money
it brought it should have been right. The grille looks spray painted and not anodized, the side trim inserts looks the same way, the wheels look body color and should be
black or argent, the aluminum trim on the dash looks spray painted as well where it should be just the dots or just polished, the horn ring center piece is wrong, kick
panels don't fit worth a darn and look awful, and the package tray shouldn't be brown vinyl. The trunk mat isn't right either but that's the least of the problems. Good
luck finding that. I'm not really a fan of the hood/fender gaps either but that is probably a relatively easy fix, |

Interesting "extensive restoration" of the '61 Fury ragtop:
- Silver ram tubes (not gold).
- Red valve covers (not gold).
- No "SonoRamic Commando Power" badge on the right rear side of the deck lid.
- The interior looks very good but while I can't put my finger on it, it just doesn't seem quite kosher.
- Those dorky wire wheels should be left to the '61 T-Birds.
I kinda suspect that this is a ram clone so a build record would be nice.
Still, a beautiful car.
Any info on that '61 wagon with the 413/4-speed?

I just can't help but feeling like an old man with these threads.
420K for a recently built custom? Granted, it's beautiful, but it goes against every rule of car collecting to believe this car will maintain this kind of value over the long term. It's a RESTOMOD. If the buyer is so rich he bought it simply to enjoy it... then I think it was a very smart purchase. But as for future value I'd say it makes no sense. People have talked about the Keller Imperial. That car at least has real history. This car is like jewelry, nothing more. As the shine fades and miles are put on, so will it's value.
This market is totally schizophrenic.
Anyway, I have to go chase those kids off my lawn again...

How well did the cars run, if at all ? Was the metal all original, or were these bondo queens ? Red puddles under the cars ? If the seller knew he was gonna get rid of these, chances are that the only work put into them was a good buffing and cleaning. And in the case of the second car, even that was skipped. Ron |

| this restomod is the keller Imperial... I agree it should have been taken back to stock but again, its not my car.
-----------------------from the auction----------------------
t’s not every day that one sees a 1955 Imperial Convertible. If the body design doesn’t ring a bell, it’s not a surprise. The introduction of the Imperial as a stand-alone model in 1955 did not include a convertible release. Chrysler Chairman K.T. Keller had a single one-off example built as a styling exercise and personal car. That singular prototype car was the prime influence to this modern rendering that was directed by Wayne Davis himself, blending the best of old and new to create not just a tribute to Keller’s Virgil Exner-dreamed prototype, but an inspired construction that stands on its own merits.
------------------------------------
that resto mod had an insane amount of work and money in the car.
we've all seen the "over 300k invested!, selling for 50k!" cr@p... but the car really had a ton invested, it wasn't just making up numbers.
unfortunately it probably will do the "autorama circuit" and not be driven much I expect, it does win awards though and shines up nice
