Location: Under the X in Texas | Presume you are referring to the added "boxing" component through the outsde center rails of the frame. The X-member was standard. The box sections served two purpuses. First of course the acted as reinforcing trusses to the main frame. Secondly, they added "bomb-proofing" as these are in fact medium gauge hollow steel boxes. If an explosive were detonated under the car, these boxes would take away some of the concussion by collapsing before the concussion would get to the outer floor sections and into the passenger compartment.
I didn't drive the '60 Ghia much that I owned but I can assure you I never felt any flex or heard so much as a rattle or squeak anywhere in the chassis. |

looks like the main rails were cut and the chassis extended by a longer center piece. The X also looks extended.
