Location: San Antonio, TX | I noticed this working in the trunk of my 57 De Soto sedan. There is an impression in the sealant on the floor. Matches up with the spare that was in the car when I got it. So does that mean the sealant was still soft at the assembly plant when the spare was placed in the trunk? Maybe I have the original spare tire?? Just kinda interesting.

Location: Lower Mainland BC | Based on your photos, I would say that you have an original spare there. That said, no need to tell you that, if you tried to use it, it would blow up real good.
I have a 1994 Audi S4 V8 6spd wagon (one of one in NAmerica and one of 1486 ever built). When I got it in 2013, the original spare was still in the spare well. The tire tread still had the molding nubs. The tire had never been on the ground and the mag wheel is perfect. I removed it and placed it on a tire rack in my garage to go with the car when I sell it. Even 25 years old is too old. Some people say 10. So yours at close to 60 is a blow out waiting to happen.

Location: San Antonio, TX | Haha. No I wouldn't give that a try. I replaced a beautiful set of Michelins on our '04 T-Bird that had 13000 miles on them, but they were just over ten years old. Now I'll be replacing the ones on the Rumble Bee as they are hitting tens years here shortly. Those at least have near 30K on them so I don't feel so bad. |
