We're finally getting close to doing paint on my '56 DeSoto and I want to coat the underside of the car in undercoating that has a similar texture and coating to the original stuff. Has anyone found undercoating, bedliner, etc. that is both durable and close to the original factory appearance? I'm not looking for opinions on why I am undercoating it instead of paint or anything like that. I'm just looking for what is available that looks similar to the factory stuff and is durable. Pictures would be helpful as well. Thanks.

On some later boards I see this product mentioned, though I have no direct experience, yet. But perhaps it would be an option for you.

I really like Wurth stuff. stoneguard for wheel housings, its tough stuff and goes on fairly smooth.

This is high end restorer stuff, not your Autozone rubberized crud. Goes on smooth with a undercoating gun, the aresol can leaves a rough surface.

they have a plastic/rubber regular undercoating

Thanks for the suggestions. In regards to texture, I would actually prefer it is NOT smooth in order to better mimic what was on there originally.

I believe you're looking for this stuff. Looks just like the original and has that same slightly tacky rubbery feel. You can get this in any parts store, just sharing a link to it.

No the air can is like "sand paper" rough.  Out of a real undercoating gun looks more original.   It has the right ripples/texture like factory.
