hi guys,

so i changed the points, plugs etc..went to start it, it cranked but didn't start, turned car off but was still cranking, keys out and still cranking.
i quickly disconnected the battery.

I wouldn't had thought that the points would have anything to do with this problem

1st time I've come across this.
Has anyone experienced this?..

Any tips on diagnosis

cheers...Anthony

This has nothing to do with your points. Your starter solenoid was holding it engaged and if it had started normally, would have disengaged like it should. First, find out why it won't run and fix that. You may have to replace the starter solenoid.

I would try it again but, instead of disconnecting the battery, disconnect the small wire from the solenoid to make sure the problem isn't stray voltage. The fact that it didn't start suggests something amiss electrically.
