Location: Parts Unknown | I am thinking of selling my DeSoto. Many of you know the car. Lots of photos in the thread in the regional section. Needs
total restoration. Floor pan, rockers, lower cowl, and left quarter have beenreplaced with OEM metal. OEM metal to complete
right quarter and trunk come with the car. This car was built as a corporate use vehicle, but I have been unable to verify exactly
what Mother Mopar used it for. It was sold by the company to its first private owner in 1960. This car has a lot of options,
including some really odd ones.
Haze Blue and Arctic White paint, white top.
361 4bbl w/906 heads, Torqueflite, 2.91 gears.

I gotta say, you spent so long trying to get that car and so many hours reconstructing it after the crash - you even built a garage to house this car! Part of me thinks it is sad to see you put it up for sale. That's a small part of me. Most of me understands that life gets in the way of projects like this! There are a lot of competing interests for money and time. |

Location: Parts Unknown | I have no interest in car shows or the usual old car culture. I just like to drive
them, which means leaving them unattended in places I no longer think advisable
for a car that has become so valuable. Leaving it at a trailhead, while I go hunting
for a few days, I can only imagine it being stolen or vandalized when I come back.
The world has changed since I got this car and I feel I can no longer use it as I wanted
to. I love the car, and it looks wonderful just sitting in quiet repose in my shop, but it
really should be out there and being enjoyed. With only six documented surviving
examples, and this one arguably being the best equipped example of those six, it
really should be pulled from the its hiding spot so more people can see it.

Which is exactly why I DO go to a few local car shows - to remind the average folks of a time when cars had style and class. Driving them
is great, but also being able to answer questions and show off all your work is what many of us enjoy. Sorry to see you give up on this project. |

I can fully appreciate your reasoning for doing so but I always associated you with the fireflite you wanted and loved. We didn’t agree on many points but always waited for you to comment on Firesweep and enjoyed your point of view whether it agreed with mine or not. I hope you keep the car for selfish reasons but if it has to go I hope it will stay in the states. As you said, the potential for the car is enormous. |

Location: Parts Unknown | If all it were was artful scuplture, I'd keep it just to look at. But my desired uses
for the car are to drive to the middle of nowhere in Wyoming, or places similar, and
go hunting for 3-4 days. Leaving a car like this along a railroad track in BF Egypt
would be a bad idea anymore. 20 years ago, I would not have given it a second
thought.
I feel we are all caretakers of our cars, especially the more unusual and special
ones. It's not that I am giving up, so much as I think someone else will get far more
out of it, it wll get back out there and be seen, and an overall better end for the car
and the hobby is to let someone else have it. I mean, face it, there are only a few
left, they are never openly for sale. I have no need to sell it. It could sit there and
make me happy as is forever. But I can't see spending the money to restore a car
like this, only to let it go on sitting there, because I can no longer use it like I want
to in the world we live in. Let someone else have an unobtainium dream come true. |
