| Morning Everyone,
After a very easy replacement of the gas tank and sending unit, my '60 Adventurer is up and running. Disappointment came when I pushed the "R" button and felt absolutely no movement what so ever. "D", "1" and "2" gave the same result. As the car hasn't been run since the late 1970s, I wasn't too surprised but disappointed none the less.
Being new to a car with pushbutton control for the transmission, I'm not sure what I should be checking next to see where the fault lies.
Any assistance anyone can share is greatly appreciated. Thanks a million in advance.

Location: Under the X in Texas | Is the shift cable still hooked up to the trans? Is there full fluid in the trans?

Being new to a car with pushbutton control for the transmission, I'm not sure what I should be checking next to see where the fault lies.
The push buttons are connected to slides that in turn move a lever that moves the internal part of a cable that connects to the transmission. At the transmission, the gear selector "comb" contacts a valve body that opens up various fluid pathways that control the gears. If the cable is not connected or it is broken between the shifter box and the transmission, you will not get any gears. You were lucky that it might have happened in neutral because there is a neutral safety switch that would have prevented starting (unless you bypassed the switch at the starter solenoid).

Location: NorCal | Before disassembling anything I would be sure there is fluid in the trans (dipstick) and then hook a test gauge to the line pressure test port to be sure the pump is producing pressure.

| Yep, fluid in the transmission. Will have to check the cable. |

| Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. At least I'll have a few things to check when I get home from work. |
