I have major understeer and lots of growling & squealing on hard turns. Any steering box that is in good or new condition would help greatly.
Lot's of reasons for understeer that are not related to the steering box.
On a hard turn, you are asking your PS pump to work harder. Since there is very little inside a Coaxial PS box that rotates fast enough to squeal, I would suspect your PS pump is the culprit.
First thing that I would check is the tension on the belt(s) that are driving the pump (probably via the generator on a 56 Chrysler).
