As some of you might know, I am a regular user of the 55-58 Mopar parts catalogue pdf._ I have even written a post on how to use it.

The pdf is downloadable from here:

http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=107

The hints on how to use it are in this thread:

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=66548&...

The document is huge (1268 pages) and I am happy to have the pdf because it is electronically searchable (sometimes slow and unwieldy but still searchable (with Ctrl F)).

Today, while looking for something else, I found a well used copy of the actual document. Yikes. It is crazy thick. Unfortunately, I couldn't help myself and bought it.

The upside is I will be able to manually look for the Chapter detents and correlate them to the pdf (perhaps creating "tabs") which will make using the pdf more efficient (I will share what I can)

Here is what the real thing looks like (from the eBay auction):

Yup. That's what it looks like alright. I bought a copy from one of the literature vendors at Iola back in the 1980s. It's nice to have something you can hold in your hand, and the best part is, the partsmen sometimes wrote down superseding part numbers for items that one is looking for. Looks like your copy has been well-thumbed. I hope you'll find it just as useful as I did. I look forward to your effort to improve the pdf version, as that is a useful reference as well.

Picked up the Parts List Tome on Tuesday. It is actually more than 1268 pages (that the pdf has) because it also includes the 55-56 Collision Damage sections (for all four lines).

I have now gone through the hardcopy and correlated the section pages to the pdf pages, which might make it easier to find things.

I would like to figure out how to make an automated index (click and jump to) but in the short run, I will print off a hard copy of the index below and use it to semi-manually jump to (via find) or simply drag (the pdf side slide bar) to the approximate page and then use the pdf Up and Down arrows to get to the final destination.

More to come (I hope)

Actually, there was a revised edition of the 55-58 book, published May 1964. Has all the additions and corrections. I still use that rather than the pdf, mainly out of habit.

Also note that the 55-6 information is abridged in the 55-58 book. For the complete listing, you must find the 55-56 parts book. Tons of additional illustrations and information in that one.

I need a 58 alone book, anyone have one? I can get the Canadian one.  Is that a bunch of different years? or combined?

I have a USA 57 ONLY book. I really need the 58 book.

the problem with combining books like Chrysler did it causes import issues. I was looking at indexing this in a database.

If anyone has a 58 let me know. I also have a lead on the 55 and 56 solo Canadian books. I think these "solo years" were addin parts lists.

I have a 56 Chryco (Canadian Mopar) parts book that does include all four lines and has some D500 parts listings too. I do use it. But I use the pdf more. (Mostly to screen-shot diagrams - easier than scanning the hardcopy).

I took the big 55-58 book to show my NOS parts guy this AM when I picked up the NOS torqueflite front pump rotor that he had. When I showed it to him, one of the first things he noticed (besides the general dog-earredness) was that it was published in November 1957, i.e. shortly after the introduction of the 1958 model year cars. The pdf is January 1961 so it will be fairly up to date with numbers that probably superceded some of the Nov. 1957 numbers.

I appreciate the work you are putting in to try and index the 55-58 parts pdf, and I am sure lots of us appreciate your enthusiasm for helping with part numbers and diagrams -- I dont know how you manage to navigate so quickly as it is not easy to search on.

I started off with the pdf when sourcing bits for my 55 Suburban and rapidly became a bit disillusioned with the lack of coverage of the 55 model. In particular I was looking for bits of the grille which were missing. Eventually I found a reference to the grille parts breakdown thru google.

Later on I was lucky enough to pick up a 55 - 57 Export Division parts catalog via ebay Germany which has excellent coverage and includes RHD parts (not that I have found any RHD parts yet!). It is dated Jan 1957.

I also picked up a repro copy of the 55-56 parts list at the right price locally here in Aus. So far the 55 catalog has been too expensive, but I think I now have all I need to go on with.

that export book is rare as all get out. and only a handful of people want it though I would like a scan but its probably not worth it.

I am actually trying to move from PDF to a searchable website potentially. I trialed on 1960 and am close to complete(databasing it).

I can get a 58 only canada part book... how different is it from USA? I'm sure the USA 58 only exists but cant find one.

It will be a "filler" book like the 57 I posted earlier. no cover just 3 ring punch holes.

Do any of you guys have a 58 only filler book?

1958 Canadian will include Plodges and such, like the 1957s: (Custom Royal = US style but Mayfair and Regent = Plodge):

Thanks.

I have been using the pdf for almost 3 years now so I have gotten used to finding the search phrases that it wants. I think I will print off the alphabetical index pages and keep them handy because those are the descriptions that work. Otherwise, I find the diagram showing the part(s), then I copy the section label from the diagram and then search on the section label to find the part number. Then I take the part number to Google and/or eBay (without the space in 1234 567, i.e. 1234567). Fairly quick and painless. Even better, sometimes successful!!!

You are correct about the 55-58 Parts pdf not being good with the 55-56 front grill, etc info. To be fair, it is in the hard copy under the Collision Damage Section but whoever decided to do the 1268 page pdf, they decided to eliminate about 50 pages on the 55-56 Collision damage info. I have other hard copy of that as well. PM me with your email if you want a pdf of those pages.
