Location: Under the X in Texas | Modern NASCAR arrived when the Kiekhaefer Mercury Outboard team arrived in NASCAR. Kiekhaefer had learned the racing business by first competing in the Carrera Panamericana (Mexican Road Race) in '52, '53 and '54 with Hemi Saratogas and later '54 New Yorker Specials. The '54 NYers also competed at AAA race tracks. Of all the cars involved, two documented cars known to survive. The '56 300B which he kept at his Florida Lake X boat racing property, and the '57 300C "Road America competition model" with which he intended at least an appearance at the Elkhart Lake, WI venue which was to hold one of the '56-57 NASCAR road races. NASCAR cancelled the series before Road America. There are multiple clones around the hobby and some in museums of the '55-56 300s and also the D-501 Dodges which Kiekhaefer fielded.
