A while ago I posted a link to a Craigslist advert on this forum for a 59 Fury hardtop in the Ebay, Craigslist & Other finds section for the benefit of other members.
The car was advertised for $3000.
The vehicle was described as being rust free but needing full restoration. It did run but you probably wouldn't want to drive it across the country. I came with a second windscreen but the back window was missing and it was also missing some of the trim. The interior upholstery was in generally poor condition including all the door trim etc which were present but tattered.
A friend of mine rang the owner up after the advert on Craigs had expired and the owner now stated that he wanted $5,500. for the Fury...

My friend asked how many responses he had had from the advert and he admitted to having one guy repeatedly call but never actually put in an appearance (I think we've all dealt with that guy!). Also a father and son looked at it as a project but decided against it.

My friend in a gentle manner told the owner (who he describes as heck of a nice fellow so no problems there) that the advert was also posted on this site by me and that if there was a finned MoPar guy out there interested he would probably have had a call - but he hadn't.
Calls went back and forth from my friend for weeks but an impasse was reached and the owner now wasn't willing to sell it at all - which is his right, no argument there. The question here is what is it actually worth in this condition? Please no mean responses just informed comments... Many thanks.

$5,500 is about $4,000 too much. Missing parts, missing expensive glass, rough interior, and with no glass you know the floors are trash. This is not far from a parts car.

Seems to be the factory paint and I can't see any traces of rust thru in the usual places. This is very rare and the outer skin is all what counts. I would be highly surprised if the "floors are trashed". I personally LOVE cars in that condition and think 3k is a fair price, but I love 4d hts, unlike 99.9% of the car people in the US...

3k is doing the guy a favor... but within the reasonable range...

1000-1200 seems about right.

If he is wanting 3-5k, he may get that if he expanded the audience of people that would want the car. At a minimum he needs to put all its glass back in and make it roadworthy, maybe clean it up some and make it look a little nicer.

It's a neat old car and since it's not a rust bucket, it could easily be built. But there just aren't a lot of people looking for four door old Plymouths that need everything.

Having bought and sold 4 Forwardlook 4 door hardtops, imo $2000-2500 for a solid one like this , but needing what this one needs, is about right.

Everyone into old car restorations knows, the BODY is everything and this seems to be as perfect as it gets. Make your own conclusion. Even in the old car hobby, many people seem to be easily deceived by bondo and glossy paint...

I would be willing to bet that, if that car had a cheap new paint job (that peels off a couple of months later) and wwws, the estimates here would be MUCH higher... well....

You are probably right, Sid.

But for some, it might be worth spending a little more to buy a car that doesn't make your wife scream when she sees it!

Probably the most important factor here is your ability level when it comes to the restoration! As a custom paint, restoration shop as well as a transporter, I look at them differently than someone that would have to pay someone else to do any or all of the work. Personally I love the way it looks. I recently bought a 66 Ambassador 2dr ht out of the Arizona desert that looks just like that, even the same color. I would much rather buy that instead of my 67 Marlin that someone who was not a painter painted it black! There should be a law that only the most experienced bodyman/painter be allowed to do a black car! LOL

God Bless
Bill

The missing rear window is the biggest problem and reduces the value considerably. You may be able to find another one from BigM or Gary Grossitch, but you might not too. If not, you would have to find another 4 door hardtop to part out, just to get the window. The cost start racking up with that thing. Did run is a lot different than does run, drive & brake, and how well. I would say $2000-$2500 max. He should have taken the $3000 offered and ran with it.

Plenty more of those out there, move on, and if the sell finally changes his mind, he will call. Otherwise just keep looking. Ted Tuna Boats has a few nice units too. Might cost a little extra, but not too much. They pop up on Face book FL group all the time (easier to post, with copy and paste and 1st picture automatically shows).

Doesn't that interchange from all 57-59 4d ht's? If so, it shouldn't be too hard to find.

All '57-'58 4dr hardtops (except Imperial) and only Plymouth in '59. So good point. I happen to have one available for it myself. I was thinking that all the '59's were different, but Plymouth appears to be the exception. I also have the rear window trim for it as well.

I have plenty of those back windows.

I'd say $2500 is about right if it's rustfree, as that was about the best I could ever get for similar cars in similar condition.

front bumper guards and air scoop valance are on the car and look good. This is good news because it is hard to find.

The R window isn't impossible but the missing exterior trim might be a problem, that stuff is getting scarce.
