Location: Ferndale, WA 98248 | Just starting to look into this. What should I expect to pay to have the rear bumper on my 61 Newport rechromed?
It is in good condition, but it has lots of fine surfaces scratches that can't be polished out.

Location: Ponder, TX | Lots of variables to establish a "normal" price. I had bumpers for a '56 Plymouth re-chromed about eight years ago and they cost $300 each. About the same time, a '73 Dodge pickup rear bumper was around $350, and after a couple of years with inside storage, the chrome was flaking off. Two '64 Valiant bumpers a few years later were over $400 each, but done at a much better shop and they still look perfect. Then the new federal regulations came into effect and all but one of my local platers went out of business as the cost of installing all new equipment made it impossible to comply and stay competitive.
The only local plater I know of still operating had built his shop from scratch with modern equipment and didn't have as much expense to comply as the older places. He is now very busy, but prices skyrocketed. His basic charge for simple chrome things like side trim was $85 a foot two years ago, and one guy I talked to said his bumpers were over $1,000 each for a fifty-something Oldsmobile. That was also a couple of years ago.
No wonder any britework on new cars is plated plastic. |

Location: Sept. 1958 | I had the rear bumper on my 61 New Yorker rechromed last year by Librandi’s for $1,100. It was a nice piece to start with. |

Location: Whitewater, Ca | I just had the bumpers and trim from my 1962 Mercury Meteor done at a place in the Los Angeles area. As long as the bumpers
are in OK shape (not rusted through or looking like a stick of licorice) they charge $385.00 each. My bumpers had some dents and light corrosion, and they came out looking amazing.
A quote for my 59 Firedome is twice that each because of the 2 level design.

| the 1000-1500$ a bumper is kind of a "fu" price... we dont want to be bothered...
the 500-800$ guys are more "get er done" guys that dont have a 5000 sq foot house to pay for.
I can find plenty of 1000-1500$ quotes. You have to hunt a bit for the lower priced guys. I think many know about tri city plating out of nashville. They do good stuff if you give them a nice core and are reasonable. Avoid bumper boys... |

In the land down under it cost me $3000 to chrome the rear bumper of a 59 Dodge. And then they stuffed it up. |
