1955 Belvedere VIN assistance

Carole Posted 2020-08-10 8:43 PM (#601898) Subject: 1955 Belvedere VIN assistance New User Posts: 4 Tag build tag on the firewall for my '55 Belvedere 4D sedan reads: 100-2116. I gathered from another thread that "100" IDs the 4D sedan, and the "2116" is the build location. So what are the codes for those locations? Now for the hard part. My serial number tag (which my wife pointed out as an obviously non-original tag) reads "10,871,271"; also bogus,as the SN for that year begin about 15,761,000 (Detroit.) So, can the real SN be found anywhere else on the car? Can I reference the real serial number from the build tag on the firewall (fat chance!)? Any input appreciated! Charlie Drake
