| Picked up a rebuilt 63 413 short block today cheap . It has a gear drive on front. Does this mean it is a industrial motor?
If so, is this motor usable in a car?

| The gear drive is industrial and / or larger truck. It probably will have an eight bolt flywheel flange. A good block for a hot rod engine, but as is will be low compression. |

| I see it has the 8 bolt flange. I guess I will only be able to use the block from this motor and maybe the rods?

I have heard that the marine 413 also had the gear drive. |

Location: Muskego, WI | Did these engines have special thrust bearings (crank, cam or both) given the quieter helical gears? |

Location: NorCal | The cam gears were spur gears, not helical.

This raises a question I have often pondered, he also shows a pic of what appears to be an early unthreaded crank flange but most of the industrial/marine 413's I've seen pics of appear to have what appears to be the late Hemi style threaded crank flange.
Wonder what the casting date is on the side of the subject block. |

OK, that begs one more question, crank flange extension....how far is the crank flange from the block? |
