With or without a/c, remove radio though the speaker opening. It is tight getting the 2 forward screws out that hold the grille in place. The speaker and fiberglass bracket just comes out after disconnecting wires.

Hemmings Magazine has a number of advertisements for radio repair shops. It depends on how much you want to invest in repairing the radio. Most shops will do a competent job of restoring your original AM radio, (it isn't a complex circuit) but there are some who will put in an FM band and Bluetooth capability. That could be expensive, but if it's what you want...
