Need help decoding a 1958 Dodge Coronet VIN tag LD232605
made in LA factory?
The VIN tag by itself tells us very little.
L = 1958
D= Dodge
2 = Coronet or Custom Coronet with a V8 (1 = 6 cylinder)
No second L after the first 2 = not LA plant (LA plant = LD2L -nnnnn)
No N after the first 2 = not Newark plant (Newark plant = LD2N -nnnnn)
Therefore your LD2 32605 = a 1958 Coronet (or Coronet Custom) V8 built in Detroit.
And that is all you get from that. If you post a photo of the cowl data tag like the one attached, we could perhaps tell you more.

I have no idea what kind of bureaucrat or where they/you are but that is a bunch of horse road apples. Date is only going to be possible if you get the IBM card image from Fiat Chrysler America (FCA) Historical. You need proof of ownership and the VIN.
So far, we know that your car is a 1958 Dodge Coronet V8 that was built in Detroit during the 1958 Model year that probably ran from October 1957 to July/August 1958. Yours is probably early in 1958, which exact month, only the IBM car will tell.
In the meantime, you can offer to stick the following up the bureaucrats @ss:
From the November 1957 issue of the 1955- 1958 Mopar Passenger Car Parts list Printed in the USA because Chrysler was a US company and the 1959 Mopar Passenger Car Past list (to show the difference between "L" =1958 and "M" = 1959), I can offer the following:
EDIT: The 1958 Model Year started on Nov. 1, 1957 and by October 10, 1958 the 1959s were out. The 1958 Dodge model year production was 133,953 cars across all three plants (Detroit, Newark and Los Angeles). Assuming that 1958 production ended at the end of August, 1958 (to give time for the change over to the 1959s), there were 10 months of 1958 model year production. *IF* production was even per month (which it wouldn't be - there would be a ramp up in November and a slow down in August), there would be about 13,395 cars built per month. Two months from November 1 to Dec. 31st would be about 26790 cars, running the early January VINs to around 27791, which is close to but still lower than the car in questions VIN LD2-32605. However, because production was split across the three plants, the Detroit VINs would likely not have progressed that quickly by January. That coupled with the initial production ramp up infers that LD2-32605 was likely built in January or February 1958, certainly not in 1957. Again, the IBM card is need to confirm/deny this guess.

Just for a reference my 1958 Coronet, LD218909 was built 11/6/57.
Wow. I guess that I forgot that "release date" of Nov. 1, 1957 doesn't mean that they started building them then. Obviously, they had to have started in October to build 17,908 cars by Nov. 6th.
So my whole "law of averages" numbers game is totally out to lunch. Especially since I also forgot that the Scheduled build date is right there on the cowl data tag, i.e. 12 12, Dec. 12th, 1957.
Bottom line: The car is 1958 Dodge Coronet Lancer V8 that was built in Detroit, Michigan, USA in the month of December, 1957.
I am "helping" somebody else with their car, a 56 Dodge, and I encouraged him to contact Danielle Szostak-Viers at FCA Historical to get a copy of his car's IBM card. He did that yesterday and got this response today:
"Hello *****,
Thank you for contacting the FCA Historical Archives. Depending on the year, make and model of your vehicle, we do provide a build record service. We do have build records from 1930-1967 for Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Imperial and DeSoto vehicles and 1930-1954 Dodge Trucks. We do not have build records after the year listed or for Jeep or AMC vehicles.
At this time, we are unable to do the research needed to answer your request, due to corporate guidelines, and have limited physical access to the archival records. We are able to answer requests where we can remotely access the materials.
While we cannot provide a time frame as to when we will be able to assist you, I would expect that it will be towards the end of May, but there is no target date at this time.
Thank you for your understanding on this matter. We look forward to being able to help our customers in the future.

Location: The Mile High City | The VIN LD232605 and the cowl tag style plus cowl tag schedule number 1212 indicate the car was built at Hamtramck Main on or around December 12, 1957. It is definitely not an LA build car.

Location: The Mile High City | Those are correct decodings of both cowl tags. The option codes will not match the positions in the cowl tag; for example, a "2" in the first position on the cowl tag indicates a Powerflite automatic transmission and reads vertically as "292", but that 292 number will not match the broadcast sheet option code (sale order code) number.
