Hi,
I'm having trouble adjusting the rear brake shoes on a 59 Chrysler New Yorker. I know about the two adjusting screws on the backing plate, but they seem to be stuck. Any advice before I give in and just tear it all down would be greatly appreciated.

Removing the drum might not help. Your adjusters might just be stuck. Spray a small amount of Moovit or PB Blaster or the like in from the back at the adjusters and let them sit for a bit. Then use a deep 7/16" six point socket and small breaker bar (or the proper adjusting wrench) and try moving them both directions until they free-up. Repeat until they move.

You might want to review this Center Plane brake thread:

Try a 11mm six-point socket.
