| I am restoring a 1956 Dodge ( factory RHD). I have sent the steering wheel away for repair, and was then told by the repairer that the signal cancelling ring had a broken tab. This I believe can be repaired. But I was also told I was missing the horn contact slip ring and feed cable. I have discovered this normally sits under the signal cancelling ring.
I should mention that this car was partially dismantled when I acquired it. I have not removed the horn contact slip ring. I have now been sent a photo of what that looks like and posted it here also, along with photos of my wheel , and the horn bits I acquired. My steering column had the horn wire coming up the top of the steering column tube.
This car is a manual steering car, so the question I have is will the horn work without a horn contact slip ring.?
Any help / knowledge appreciated. Thanks, Steve

| Hi Steve, this is a picture of my 1956 Dodge Custom Royal manual steering Horn Wire connection. There is no Slip Ring. The wire comes up the centre of the steering shaft and twists with the wheel turn.

| Hi Del,
Thanks that's the confirmation I was looking for. I thought it was a remote chance that someone would have taken the slip ring off and refitted the cancel ring, as well as routing the wire up the column. It was logical to be factory, but good to have it confirmed.
Thanks for your response. Steve |

| Steve, if you pull the wire out or replace the wire or have an oil leak at the bottom of the column I have sizes and numbers for the seal. Don’t go to eBay for them.

| I know yours is an older post but I hope you can help me out. I have a 56 dodge with manual steering. I can’t see where the horn wire enters the steering shaft. My car was in pieces when I got it with a non mopar steering wheel attached. I finally have all the correct pieces installed except for the steering horn wire. Can you advise please? |

Location: So. Cal | There should be a hole at the bottom of your steering box that the wire inserts into. Clean the bottom of your steering box and you should find it. |
