Can anyone tell me what the dome lights mount to? They have a clip on the back that apparently goes into a rectangular hole, but into
what? Just the headliner cardboard? My headliner was too far gone to tell. I'm planning to use two - one original was with the car, and I
just got an NOS one on Ebay. If I end up with a cloth headliner they will need to go into something more substantial, and grounded so the switch will work.

My '56 Plymouth sedan light clips onto the the headliner bows. Since you would likely be making custom bows for a cloth headliner, maybe you could use a sedan light instead.

This dome light mainly holds by the cardboard, supported by an plate on inner side of cardboard.
The ground comes by a wire from b-post

with an cloth headliner you have to tinker something.

Thank you. That explains a lot, including how the light with a switch is grounded. I'm thinking I will fabricate sheet metal plates that attach to the two stamped steel cross braces.
