Location: Washington, D.C.		Can anyone tell me if my trans is original to my 58 Chrysler: it has the raised numbers "17364132A" on the driver's side and the stenciled numbers "182374 R0814839" above the dip stick on the passenger side. Thanks

The raised letters are the casting number of the case, not the transmission number.

The transmission number is stamped on a machined flat area near the point where the filling tube is attached to the right side of the transmission. The numbers will be upside down on the installed transmission but they would look something like this:
