Location: Medford Oregon | The arm rests have been bad in both of the 55 Chrysler I have owned. Somewhere, I don't remember where, I read that all the arm rests in Chrysler that year are slowly turning to goo. Have others solved this issue, and how?

There were probably two or three different 55 and 56 Chrysler/Desoto/Dodge arm rests.
One design was all formed foam over a metal armature. The other had a hard plastic bottom and a soft top that you could recover.
I threw out some all foam ones (that were NOT goo) because nobody here wanted them for the price of shipping.
You might be able to PlastiDip yours and then paint them to match your interior.

Location: Medford Oregon | I found where I read that the '55 armrests are bad.
Gary's Goes wrote"The one piece molded '55 armrests all are turning into goo and have been for decades. Vinyl dye won't work." "The 56 bases and pads look almost identical and thus are a great replacement."
He is unclear if the '56 will screw on without his modification. So, can someone measure the distance between the screws on a '56 armrest so I can see if a good set would fit without modifying? |
